Disappointing Experience at Porta Ossuna – Beautiful Presentation, but Poor Taste and Service I recently visited Porta Ossuna Ristorante Pizzeria in Cefalù with a friend, and unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. We ordered the trio of fish tartare, a pasta dish, and a salad. At first glance, the presentation looked promising – everything appeared beautifully plated. However, the taste didn’t match the visual appeal. The tartare had no flavor at all, lacking any seasoning or character. The pasta was underwhelming, and the salad tasted bitter – definitely not enjoyable. We also ordered two margaritas, which were nothing like a proper cocktail. They tasted like diluted tequila with water, no ice, no lime – definitely not what you expect when ordering a margarita. The service was also quite poor. When the waitress asked for feedback, I tried to explain politely what didn’t work for us. Instead of listening, she cut me off and dismissively said, “Salad is salad,” showing no interest in our opinion. Overall, this place was a letdown – overpriced for the quality offered, both in food and service. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially in a town where there are so many better dining options.

The food was perfectly fine – I had the tuna with mango sauce and my partner ordered pasta Bolognese, which she really enjoyed. The price-performance ratio is reasonable, though not outstanding, probably due to the location. When we visited at lunchtime, it was very busy, mostly with tourists. Most of the staff were friendly and attentive, but unfortunately one waitress repeatedly ignored my companion and seemed completely uninterested in her job. Since the rest of the team was very polite and welcoming, I would still give the restaurant 4 stars.

From the outside this place looks beautiful, with stunning surroundings and a gorgeous view – but don’t be fooled! Sadly, the restaurant was a huge disappointment, and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Right from the start, it was annoying that every single waiter who walked past our table kept asking if we wanted something to drink, even though I clearly said we needed more time. Then, when it was obvious we were no longer looking at the drinks menu but at the food menu, it took forever for someone to finally come over.

When I asked how the beef was prepared, the waiter just shrugged and said: “Well, it’s beef… grilled.” That was it. No recommendations, no description, no information whatsoever about the dish. I ordered it well-done, but when it arrived it was literally bleeding on the plate. Just the sight of it made me feel sick. I sent it back, asking for it to be cooked properly, but they only managed to burn the outside while the inside stayed raw. I could cut off a few pieces from the edges, but the rest was inedible.

This was one of the more expensive dishes on the menu, but clearly it doesn’t matter how you order it – they simply cannot cook it properly. Worst of all, when I explained that I couldn’t eat it, I didn’t even get a simple apology. Instead, I saw the waiter take my plate to someone else and angrily explain something, which felt extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. At the end, when I said I didn’t want to pay for the meal, they tried to “compensate” me with a limoncello, which was just laughable. I went home hungry, which is the last thing you want on holiday.

Not once during the meal did anyone come to check if everything was okay or if we needed anything. The lack of professionalism and care was unbelievable.

And it wasn’t just my food: • My friend also asked for her meat to be well-done, but it came out bloody inside. • My other friend ordered a salad, which looked like a pre-packaged supermarket mix with a bit of tuna thrown on top. It was neither fresh nor appetizing.

To sum it up: • Service: annoying and unprofessional. • Food quality: terrible. • Communication: nonexistent. • Attitude: disrespectful. • The view is beautiful, but that’s not thanks to the restaurant.

I’m truly disappointed, because when you’re on holiday you want to enjoy good food and memorable experiences – especially for these prices – not leave hungry, upset, and let down. This restaurant delivered nothing of what it promised.

I would never go back, and I strongly advise others not to waste their time or money...

First night in Cefalu, loving the old town and walking looking for somewhere with good food and wine and a chance for a long leisurely tasty meal. Came around the corner and spotted Porta Ossuna. So very glad that we did as this was one of the stand out meals of our trip. My vegetarian wife found several options available to her. We both had pizza main which was amazing. We always find ourselves comparing pizza everywhere to a place we ate in vieste some years ago, with most places falling short. Not Porta Ossuna, I feel we will compare all future Pizza to here now. Wine list was varied and excellent. Service was excellent. Attentive, but relaxed. We spent several hours eating and drinking a stunning red wine. Left very happy having paid a very reasonable price for an...
