L'Acqua Salata Ristorante — Restaurant in Civitavecchia

After reading the many reviews, my wife and I thought we had found a gem of a restaurant. Unfortunatley, this was not the case. Prior to our cruise, this was the 3rd restaurant we had tried. The other two were suberb with reasonable seafood prices. The only positive thing this restaurant could offer was its location and the presentation of the food when it arrived on the table. The restaurant is located on a walkway and somewhat private on a cobblestone walkway. The food was very expensive to what you received and the taste was subpar. The fish soup that I ordered had no fish in at all. Pricey tomato soup (with no fish - come on) which was reduced and tasted like tomato paste. It did have a few strands of parsley in it for decoration. The calamari was just OK. Nothing to write home about. The other items that we ordered were also so so. Not great in a town located right on the water, (and at 125.00 euro for 2) you would expect a decent size plate of seafood. Small portions. The wine ordered was extremely expensive which you could purchase at the local store at a fraction of the cost. If not for the location and the presentation of the food, I would rate it even lower. I've traveled the U.S. and parts of Europe seeking "trophy meals" that I will enjoy for years, and L'Acqua Salata will remain at the top of my list. We have a particular appetite for small, local flare. Our waiter, Angelo, was kind and patient helping us navigate the menu by translating to English. He was wonderful with our kids and taught them a "pasta twirling" lesson. Seafood was fresh, true to tradition, incredible, and other options (kid's pasta bolognese) were also excellent.

We had a pasta dish with seawater, mussels, candied lemon and basil before our main course that was my favorite pasta I've ever eaten.

Everything was GREAT! The food, service, atmosphere—everything great. I had the calamarata. This made my Italian trip. Every other place I went to gave me some mediocre pasta. This place is something I would come back to italy for. This food is worth its price 100%. My family was more than pleased with their dishes. If ya’ll see this review, please don’t skip over it.
