Gelateria Siciliana — Restaurant in Fiesole

1 star is 1 too many! AVOID!!!

As a tourist in the area we decided on this ice cream parlour - big mistake avoid this one there is another one across the road!

The manager wasn’t friendly upon servicing us, and the ice cream was very average. Italian not being a language we speak fluent in we purchased the ice creams in person and went to sit down at one of the 8 empty tables for the customers. This is very common practice in Italy, cafe and restaurants do table service but for ice cream its purchase at the counter. Halfway through consuming our ice creams we were very rudely shooed away and insulted by questioning us if we could read the signs on the table which said table service. We assumed that it was for customer who purchased items from the parlour as it is everywhere else. There was no signs to offer “table service” nor did this man come to offer us table service when we were looking at purchasing in this place. Extremely rude and unpleasant 50-ish man first asked us what we wanted, and we said we weren’t sure in English and in spanish (still working on Italian). We wanted to buy a bottle of water, and we were reading the label. He then proceeded to yell at us “inside or outside” and “what do you want” over and over again, becoming more and more unpleasant. Then he pulled the water bottle away from us. We’re just fairly typical middle-aged tourists, and we were all very surprised. We all wanted gelato too, but we had noticed that it looked like it had been thawed and refrozen, which we’d never seen before in Italy. We went instead to another gelato shop in the square that wasn’t so hostile and uncomfortable. Really, it may be that the man is deeply troubled in some way, but I’m still not going to eat in an environment like that. We did notice it was much less busy than other more pleasant...

First time visiting Fiesole and had exceptional service everywhere until we visited this lovely looking gelateria. Unfortunately the service we received from our waitress was not just below par but unnecessarily rude, we left feeling very unwelcome and dissatisfied with being treated like we were a hindrance rather than paying customers. Although the gelato was very tasty our experience was well and truly ruined by our unwelcome reception and a beer that was mainly froth.
