Café Pasticceria Gamberini — Restaurant in Florence

Good coffee but confusing, rude service and unclear service charges. I ordered a doppio, I said I'll have it here (not takeaway) and then went to sit down. The barista then told me I'd need to pay a service charge for where I was sitting and I said ok and asked how much it was - the barista didn't know how much, and said I'd have to ask his "colleague" to clarify the price...

So, I was standing in a line(!) to talk to the "colleague" while the coffee was being made and then the barista said if I picked it up at the counter and walked it to back to the table, then no charge. So I said sure! Then, when I did so and moved toward a seat outside someone completely different yelled loudly "that area isnt free!" so I had to go somewhere else in the place. (I'm not sure if I looked poor or cheap or what... I was entirely willing to pay for service but no one could simply say the cost ahead of time and where exactly I could sit...). Very awkward.

In the end, fine coffee but bureaucratic and not very welcoming.

Maybe I just didn't get what was obvious to others, but I recommend the restaurant simply tell people upfront how it all works rather than put people through a complicated process of hide and seek to figure out their process and seating chart (it does work differently throughout Italy so maybe offer a smile with an explanation, instead of...

Don't let the allure of beautiful pastries lure you inside.

Beautiful looking pastries, in a beautiful corner building, unfortunately the beauty is superficial at most.

We came in on a Sunday morning, and after 20 minutes of waiting, someone came to offer us someone else's coffee order.. We told them we had not ordered yet.

Then 10 minutes later we were able to order. Two cappuccini, a croissant with pistachio cream filling and chefs choice of 5 pastry.

5 minutes later, the wrong order of coffee came again.

At this point my partner, an Italian, looked at the manager and he responded aggressively "lo so" "I know"

I'd like to know what he knows, because this service was bad. We walked out, as we had a train to take.

The table next to us were all finishe finished their breakfast by the time the last breakfast arrived, so Im hoping they had staff issue today. But with the attitude and the general confusion of the people waiting tables, I cannot...
