Il Gelato di filo — Restaurant in Florence

This gelateria is my Roman Empire. I wish I had more when I was there.

It took me many days to find the right place to try italian gelato. Most places seemed tourist-oriented, with inflated ice-creams and strange flavours (like energy drink). So when I saw this tiny place in a quiet piazza of Florence we decided to try it.

We had the Lemon with Salvia, which was balanced, refreshing, sophisticated, it doesn’t matter what I say about it, because it’s impossible to put it into words. And the Nociolla was simply the best I have ever had, silky and sweet.

I went there today on my way to Piazzale Michelangelo, tiny ice cream place but as an Italian I can recognise good ice cream. Never buy ice cream super high and fluffy with bright colours, it will have colourings and food additives. You can tell the ice cream is “flat” in its container and with pastel colours. My friend is lactose intolerant and had peach and grapefruit ice cream, very interesting flavours, very fresh and “creamy” despite being dairy free. Wow! Best gelato I’ve had in EUROPE. I’ve been traveling for two months all over Italy and Spain and this was by far the best place I’ve gone. So many fresh, made from scratch, flavors. Also amazing pricing! This place definitely is saved on my world favorites list on my phone and I will be back again on this trip even tho I am across the river just to have another scoop.
