Francesca was about informed a source of Italian wine production as one can be. A sommelier, chef and fluent Engish speaker, she brought Chianti to life for us. Combined with the experts at each of the three wine producers we visited, she and her wine-loving peers showed my brother and I an authentic Tuscany wine experience we'll bring with graves.
Each host, at each stop, spared no details. The mix of science and poetry that was used to describe the wine making process struck an ideal balance between the artistry of wine making, and the laborious math, biology and chemistry involved.
They spoke of the soil, climate, weather, family, earth and the litney of process that yield them some of the best wines on earth so eloquently that my smile tattooed my face the whole time. We tried top flight Chianti and a few special surprises, like dessert wines, not fortified mind you, and a great balance of young and beautifully aged flagship varietals.
There was no pressure at all to buy, but honoring the important work these producers do makes purchasing their wines, in my view, a humbling duty and entirely our pleasure.
I strongly recommend you secure these talented and passionate wine experts. More precisely, secure this tour operator, with Francesca as your guide, And oh yes, ask a ton of questions. Francesca loves when you ask questions directly related to the topic she's in the throes of unpacking. So don't be shy. Francesca is intensely passionate about wine and food, but she hides it well behind an approachable, modest persona. Nonetheless, she is a bastion of wine and pairing information, so...
Read moreThe was a wonderful way to spend a day in Tuscany. We visited three boutique wineries in the heart of the Chianti Classico region that all made high quality hand crafted wine with our guide Tim. As a winemaker himself, Tim is very knowledgeable and personable. Our first stop was Fattoria Di Bagnolo where the owner, Marco, spent much time reviewing the property's rich history followed by an instructive sampling of his great wines and olive oil. At our second stop, Altiero, we had a delicious home cooked lunch that was typical of the region prepared by the owner, Sam, paired with their fantastic wines. At our final stop, Solatione, Francesca (the owner) gave us a tour of the wine making facilities and property where we enjoyed picturesque vistas and amazing wine! We purchased wine at each place and had it shipped back to the states. The shipping cost was quite reasonable (actually comparable to shipping costs from California to the east coast of the US) and everything arrived without incident. This tour was a highlight of our 10 day trip. I can't say enough great things about Tim! I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in seeing the beautiful Tuscan countryside, learning more about the Chianti Classico region, and of course drinking some amazing...
Read moreThe tour was absolutely great. Angela was our tour guide, and also the owner of this small tour company. Given that they only have a max of 8 guests per tour it felt very exclusive. It also was not rushed at all, which is one of the things I detest in tours. But because their tours include small groups, there's no reason to rush through them.
The drive through the Tuscan countryside was breathtaking. The three wineries visited were all small businesses ran by family members. The owners were very welcoming and friendly and their wineries go back generations. These wineries also only work with Angela's company.
I also wanted to mention lunch, since I couldn't find much info before. The lunch, at least for our tour, had an amazing setting overlooking the beautiful countryside. I requested no red meat, and our group included others who also requested similar. The lunch spreads were all vegetarian for us, and they were amazing and fresh. Probably one of the best meals I had in Italy. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures, but you'll be full and pleased at the end of it. It even included a grape cake as dessert.
Thank you so much again, Angela. I'd absolutely recommend this tour to friends, family and internet...
