After days of delicious (but heavy) Italian meals, this restaurant was a total breath of fresh air. The menu offered a refreshing change of pace — and rice never tasted so good.
We ordered a variety of plates and were genuinely impressed by the flavors, especially the dumplings/gyoza. Every dish had a comforting, savory quality without trying too hard to be overly trendy or westernized — which we appreciated. We were half-expecting the food to be watered down or “fusioned” into something unrecognizable, but instead, it delivered clean, satisfying flavors that reminded us of home cooking.
The service was another highlight — warm, adaptable, and genuinely kind. It felt like being taken care of by someone who really wanted us to enjoy the experience. Prices were surprisingly reasonable for the quality and quantity.

We later realized the place isn’t run by anyone Japanese, which explained a lot. The overall experience felt misleading. While €22 for two people isn’t outrageous, we couldn’t help but feel a little scammed. Disappointing, especially after the initial promise of something...
Read moreKomugi is our gem from Florence. I know, I know, coming to Italy and eating Japanese food is a surprising choice. We missed Asian food soooo much after traveling through Europe for 2 weeks especially after eating really bad renditions of our food from home. When we came to Komugi, we were greeted by such a warm environment and an even kinder hostess. The restaurant is on the smaller side but if you come at the beginning of their dinner service you can find a table! The food is great and really good value for Florence as well. We had the katsudon, pork dumplings, miso soup, tofu don, and gyudon during our time here. All were on point. We recommend this spot for anyone who needs a break from Italian food or would like to eat at a comforting restaurant...
