I'm sure Leonardo da Vinci is rolling over in his grave, but I have to announce that SoulSpace was the best part of our trip to Italy.
After days of walking and sightseeing, I was looking for a place to unwind with my husband. When I called SoulSpace and attempted to speak Italian, the owner Zelal could not have been nicer or more accommodating. She speaks English wonderfully and recommended a couples massage that comes with time in the pool, sauna, shower and relaxation area.
SoulSpace is just a couple of blocks from the Duomo. When we walked in we were blown away with how lovely and unique it is. It's a plush, comfortable spa in a Renaissance building. It's amazing what they've done to marry old and new. At Zelal's recommendation, we came about an hour early so that we could relax and enjoy the facilities before our massage. You can tell that she REALLY cares about her clients and creating a wonderful experience for them.
First we changed into swimsuits (we didn't have any, so they brought us some to borrow.) There's a sparkling pool at the perfect temperature in the middle of this awesome building, and it was so relaxing to get in and float around. Then we went into the sauna, and it smelled heavenly. We bounced between the pool, the sauna and the spa shower for a while before retiring to the relaxation area, which is equipped with several comfy chaises.
The ladies there were so helpful, attentive and sweet. They served us delicious tea, and we looked at books about art and culture in Italy before they came to take us to the massage. For the massage, we descended to a magical, dimly-lit cellar. We walked through a rooms of middle-eastern-looking cushions and decor. It was beautiful. Laura, one of our masseuses, opened a large, old door to the couple's massage room. It was filled with candles, and Leonard Cohen music was playing. It was divine.
We had a 60-minute couples massage, and the ladies did a wonderful job. We felt completely comfortable, relaxed and refreshed.
A big thanks to Zelal, Laura and the other ladies who created a fantastic, memorable...

I went to this spa for a Comfort Touch massage, which my boyfriend had gifted me with a voucher for. Unfortunately, the experience was not what we had hoped for. Firstly, the pictures on Google were misleading, as they showed an open space with a big pool area, which is actually from another spa outside of Florence. The spa only consists of the small pool showed on some pictures, so donāt fooled by that. Upon arriving, I was 10 minutes late to my appointment and although I apologized, the ladies at the reception desk were not welcoming at all. The atmosphere was tense, which is not the best setting for a relaxing massage. The actual massage itself was the worst I have ever experienced in my life. There was no initial conversation about any specific pains or areas I did not want to be touched. The therapist did not explain anything and instead of massaging the most common areas, like the neck and shoulders, I received an uncomfortable tickling foot treatment and strange massage movements on my belly. To make matters worse, intimate zones were not fully covered, making me feel even more uncomfortable. It was clear that the therapist was not professional. Also as she did not speak English well enough, signature things from the Comfort Touch massage, such as mental re-enactment, were completely lost. She finished the massage 15 minutes early and just asked if everything was okay before leaving the room. I had no idea if I was still supposed to be lying down, if I could sit somewhere, or if I should go out. When I came out of the room, there was no one at the reception or anywhere close by to ask. Eventually, I just got dressed and left the place feeling confused and annoyed. Paying 80⬠for this disappointing treatment was not worth it. I cannot recommend this spa and will never go back. If you're looking for a relaxing massage, you're better off trying...
