La Ghiotta — Restaurant in Florence

This restaurant was recommended to us by our Airbnb host. It was in October. The food was good, but we were treated very poorly by our waiter. It was clear that because we were American they were treating us badly. It was an Asian fellow and another young girl waiting on us. We ordered our food and then another couple came and sat down next to us that were Italian. They took the order for the Italian couple and brought out their food and while they were eating, we were still waiting for our food to arrive. Even the couple next to us asked the waiter why our food hadn’t come out yet. The couple next to us left, and we were still wanting to order dessert, but the waiter never came back to our table all the while smiling and laughing with his other coworker. As new people came in the restaurant, it became obvious that they were enjoying the little prank on us in Italian and other people were becoming aware. La Ghiotta is a charming spot in Florence that I used to frequent with friends, and it never disappointed me. Every time I visited, I’d order the seafood pasta, and it was consistently delicious. While it was sometimes a bit on the oily side, the flavors were always spot on, making it a dish I looked forward to each time. The staff was always friendly and accommodating, especially considering I’d often come with a large group. Service was quick, which is a big plus in a busy city like Florence. While the seafood pasta is the only dish I’ve tried from the menu, I’ve heard nothing but praise from my friends about their choices, so I’m confident the other offerings are just as good. Rosticceria molto conosciuta in zona S.Ambrogio per il buon rapporto qualità/prezzo; in molti me ne hanno parlato e quando ne ho avuto l'occasione ho voluto provarla con la mia compagna. Appena entrati si rimane colpiti dalla varietà di piatti proposti dalla Tavola Calda, con specialità casalinghe, fritti ed altri prodotti di Rosticceria. Una volta seduti al tavolo, piccolo e letteralmente incastrato tra gli altri, è possibile usufruire anche del Menù del Ristorante, con piatti espressi; devo dire che leggendo le pietanze proposte viene l'acquolina in bocca, con anche specialità di mare, ma guardando i prezzi sono rimasto perplesso nel vedere che il costo non era molto conveniente come mi avevano detto, essendo alla pari o anche più alto rispetto a quanto si paga in altri locali. Decidiamo quindi, per risparmiare tempo e denaro, di ripiegare su Tavola Calda e Rosticceria e cominciamo prendendo Tortelli con Gorgonzola e Noci e Tagliatelle ai Funghi; i piatti sono abbondanti ma il loro sapore viene compromesso nel momento in cui vengono riscaldati, andando a perdere la consistenza della pasta e la cremosità del condimento. Per Secondo, la mia compagna ha ordinato Tacchino con Zucchine mentre io ho preso Polpette di Carne Fritte, con qualche mini Supplì e Mozzarelline Fritte ad accompagnarle; buoni entrambi i piatti anche se dubito che i piccoli fritti d'accompagnamento siano fatti in casa. Per concludere abbiamo preso Tiramisù e Crème Caramel e forse sono i piatti che più ci hanno colpito per sapori e consistenze "casereccie". Menzione a parte per il pane che producono, uno dei più buoni mai mangiati; con mollica morbidissima ed una crosta particolarmente croccante grazie alla farina integrale. Per il tutto abbiamo speso circa 45 euro, devo dire che come prezzo non è male per una Rosticceria ma mi ha lasciato perplesso vista la grande nomea di locale "economico"; più che un luogo "dove si mangia bene spendendo poco" sarebbe meglio dire "in cui si mangia discretamente spendendo il giusto". Da consigliare per un pasto veloce se ci si trova in zona, cogliendo l'occasione per mangiare piatti tipici casalinghi; col senno di poi, dopo aver visto le appetitose pietanze espresse arrivate agli altri tavoli e la poca differenza di prezzo rispetto ai prodotti presi al bancone, forse avrei dovuto ordinare dal Menù...
