FEMALE TRAVELERS BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!!!!
I recently attended a cooking class at Pasta Class Florence, and while the information presented was insightful, I must unfortunately report that the experience was tainted by inappropriate behavior from the chef. He continuously called my partner "sweetie," which we both found unprofessional and uncomfortable.
What made the experience even more troubling was the chef's propensity to belittle me in front of the class, specifically to my partner, even though my skill level was consistent with that of my classmates. It felt like an obvious attempt to demean me while trying to impress her, which was both unprofessional and inappropriate.
The most concerning part, however, was when my partner was selected as an assistant for a cooking demonstration. During this time, the chef took it upon himself to make unnecessary physical contact, including attempting to brush her breasts with his hands (claiming he was just trying to pour olive oil) and pressing his hips into her from behind. He also asked if she would like to join him at a concert after the class. These actions were invasive and wholly inappropriate, making both of us extremely uncomfortable.
Although the cooking knowledge imparted was good, the uncomfortable and inappropriate behavior displayed by the chef made the overall experience one we would not wish to repeat and tainted our view of our otherwise great time in Florence. I cannot in good conscience recommend Pasta Class Florence to anyone based on...
Read moreMy husband and I greatly enjoyed our evening class with Marco Benevento, co-founder of Pasta Class Florence. We were impressed with the space its layout, cleanliness and the preparedness done for the ease of both instructor and students. Marco is professional and easily relates to his students to encourage them in the cooking and draw them into the cooking community. Marco shared his experience becoming a professional chef that started with a love of cooking good food that was nourished and mentored by his grandmothers and further explored and challenged in school and the Michelin starred restaurants he worked in. Mark got a chance to work with Marco at the stove preparing a sauce as did other students and we all prepared several pastas that we then cooked and ate! The students shared wine, stories and food and we all left excited to try cooking pasta from scratch at home! We live on a boat and are thrilled to now have the option to bring fresh pasta to our table! Mark is making pasta as I type this review! We wholeheartedly thank Marco for his pasta and sauce making pedagogy that is easily acted on and understood. Many top cooks can make excellent food but not all can teach others the skills and knowledge, Marco does it all while keeping you laughing. We highly recommend...
Read moreI don't drink or like wine and don't eat pasta, but agreed to try as a new experience. I am so glad I did! Turns out, I don't like bad wine, but I do like good wine and it doesn't have to be expensive one. Out of 3 wines we tried, white, rose and red, I liked two, white and rose. But that wasn't even the best part. Pasta making was so much fun! And it was delicious to eat and great to pair with wine. And the points on making sauces were right on the money. I am so much better at it now than before the class. This was one of the 4 best things in Florence: David, Ufizzi galeery, Pitti palace and Pasta Class. Different things but the same level of enjoyment. So glad someone suggest it and so glad I did it! New and great experience. Now I can make the same pasta at home, though not as fun, and drink some wine that I ordered from them. Both the sommelier and the pasta chef were entertaining and funny and informative and made it a thoroughly enjoyable evening Thanks @PastaClass! I can't recommend...
