I've never reviewed a restaurant, but this experience has compelled me to.

Unfortunately our experience was far from enjoyable. Our server (elderly man) was remarkably unfriendly and rude. When he served our meals, he halphazardly dropped* the plates on the table without even saying anything -- it was almost laughable.

It was obvious that we were not welcome, so we ate our food and kindly asked for the check from one server (who was actually nice) and after waiting 20 minutes we asked the elder server for the check to which he says, "when it's ready". It's not like we ordered risotto and expected it to be delivered right away, we just wanted the check * and it took over 25 minutes until we just went to the register and got it ourselves.

I understand this establishment has been around for years and has assumably earned its reviews, but listen, if you don't want to serve a mother and daughter (for whatever reason it was that motivated you to treat us so poorly), that's fine, simply say you're booked for the evening instead of seating us and then acting like we're infringing upon your existence.

Aside from the inexcusable service, the mussel and clam pasta was mediocre (dry pasta and low quality shellfish) and the mushroom pasta was decent.

If you believe common courtesy is a fundamental facet of restaurant service, I would not recommend running the risk of coming here and being treated poorly; time is too precious to be wasted in restaurants that fail to treat each customer with a basic...

WARNING: DO NOT EAT HERE if you have any semblance of care for the flavor of your food or the quality of the service you receive. I stopped by here on a whim for dinner without a reservation. The staff made me wait 20 minutes because no one wanted to confront the owner and ask if we could have a table without a reservation. I read many reviews while I waited for my water and bread to come, both of which took almost another 20 minutes only because I kept following up on them, and ordered the fried artichoke and gnocchi. Despite requesting olive oil and butter, neither could save the bread from tasting rubbery and utterly bland. The fried artichoke was also bland but at least it was slightly salted unlike the butter I got. The gnocchi was a further disappointment as it was paired oddly with a meat sauce that kept separating from the gnocchi itself. Throughout dinner service, the waiters barely bothered to acknowledge my existence and only did so after I kept following up on requests I’ve made. My experience dining here is definitely the worst I have ever gone through, and mind you I have traveled extensively to 20 countries now. The food was utterly bland. The service was honestly nonexistent. Overall, this experience was exceptionally shocking because of how...

To whom it may concern,

I am absolutely disgusted, I am disgusted about how completely underrated this flawless restaurant is.

It has been almost 2 weeks since I first came here with my family and after travelling all the way to Sorrento I have to say that my dining experience at Cafaggi was by far the best.

It was so good in fact, we came back once again just because the first time left us wanting more. I had ordered the Gnocchi and pork with beans which both were perfect. The gnocchi had so much flavour and blended perfectly with the meat sauce and the pork was cooked to perfection and somehow melted in my mouth.

We stumbled into the restaurant after an hour of searching for a suitable place as all seemed like traps. Even though we got there with only 20 minutes to closing (which we felt really bad about) they still managed to treat us with upmost hospitality until well after closing time.

I would be lying if I said even one thing was bad during my time as every aspect of my experience was perfect.

5 stars, underrated as even 4.5 seems too low to me. I will definitely be coming back here the next time I find myself in...

For my 21st wedding anniversary and my son’s graduation we took our bucket list trip to Italy in June with the first leg being Florence. We ate at some amazing restaurants during our stay but Cafaggi will forever hold a soft spot for us. I contacted the owner Andrea about 2 months ahead to let him know it was a special occasion and he surprised us at the end of an AMAZING with arguably the best cake we’ve ever eaten. Cafaggi is a truly authentic Tuscan restaurant and it’s the only (of some great places we ate) meal we ate in Florence that we knew we were in Italy. From the risotto to the papardelle al cinghiale to the ravioli every pasta was cooked to perfection, the gnocchi were like like heaven clouds and the bistecca was amazing. Service is slower but remember folks you’re in Italy and it’s part of the beauty of the culture here. Take your time, enjoy each bite, enjoy the company your with, put the phones and devices always and immerse yourself is the dying art of living and dining in the moment. And do yourselves a favor and put Cafaggi on your must do list. Andrea grazie mille per tutto! A presto amico mio! Andiamo in Ottobre!

There’s something fundamentally, quintessentially *honest* about Cafaggi. It’s a family run restaurant in the heart of Florence - think on that. I came here a lot in the mid-1990s, and having returned in 2024, it’s still the same people running the dining room, just a little older as we all are - though the area all around continues to change. You can see immediately that Cafaggi is run as a *family* thing. And given that, they stick with it, good day or bad day, thick and thin. They won’t smile and fawn because they only want your tourist money; no, it’s obvious they fundamentally respect what they do and take great professional pride, based on a very long tradition. Ignore the 1970s decor and the bright lights if they grate on you - look on it like the roadside restaurant you managed to stumble across, and had one of your best meals ever, because it was the one you needed the most. You’ll get fed well, you won’t leave hungry, it won’t cost you “an eye from your head”, as the Italians say. Long may Cafaggi, as I know it, continue.
