My Sugar gelato artigianale — Restaurant in Florence

Perfetto! I googled a bunch of gelato places to visit after lunch with my husband. We didn’t want to wander off too far after visiting Michelangelo’s David at Galleria dell’Accademia, especially since it was rainy, and we came across My Sugar on the map. After seeing some good reviews, we decided to give it a try. The shop is a tiny little joint with a few flavors, but most of the ones we tried were absolutely delicious! Loved the Asian ingredients and flavors thrown in there!! We couldn’t decide what to get. Don’t let the simple name ‘My Sugar’ fool you …this place knows how to do gelato right. We especially loved the fragola and caramello (loved the bitter hint!!), as well as the rice-flavored one (I’ve forgotten the name). The pistachio and hazelnut were perfetto too!

We even gotten a second serving because it was just that good. Now that we’re back in Malaysia, there’s nothing quite like My Sugar :( …we miss it so much and hope to return someday! Hopefully,...

My wife and I visited Italy for three weeks, and we probably went to at least 20 gelato shops in our time there. By far, this is the best gelato place we went to. In Rome, we went to a place called otaleg, which I would put in second place to this gelateria.

Anyways, this place has a good selection of flavors, my favorite being the pistachio and the chocolate and the matcha, and the most unique flavors being matcha, orange, and black sesame. They don't do any of that fake touristy gelato stuff, instead it's the real deal, real colors, amazing flavors, perfectly creamy, not too cold or too melty, a reasonable price, and friendly service. If you go here, I would say you have to try the chocolate, and the ORANGE (which is a lovely pink color, (something about the way orange interacts with sugar?)). I've never had anything like it.

I have to say that I’ve been underwhelmed by the gelato in Firenze. I’ve need taken the local recommendation Gelateria Della Passera and Gelateria La Carraia, which were both very good. However, the gelato experience has been good-very good, not great.

This is why, for me, My Sugar was a game changer. The gelato master has produced some spectacular gelato, truly something that you can mark as great. It was so good, I had to turn back and tell him about his spectacular artistry.

Do a favor, don’t pick flavors willy-nilly or because you feel like you want to try something. For the first time, trust the artist and have him select the flavors for you. This is how you do it right.
