We had an amazing evening at Trattoria Garga! It was recommended to us while we were on a Tour in Pompeii during a wine tasting, and we are are most welcome for the tip since it has been our best dining experience in Florence!
The staff was kind, helpful and friendly. We had Nicolo and Sandra. They took the time to explain carefully everything that needed to be or that we asked for. They also spoke to us in English and French, so they can attend to almost everyone's questions when you consider they of course speak Italian. They quickly noticed we were people's person and chatted with us a little over the course of the evening. Their service was perfect. We never felt rushed, we felt welcomed as with my Italian friends at home.
The Food! We had the Florentine steak, a spinach salad and the Tiramisu. A bottle of house wine to keep company to all that. The steak was amazing. A thick cut of T-Bone with a big filet mignon on it. It had the nice taste of BBQed meet, with some of their spices. Marco and Guiseppe at the kitchen cooked that to perfection. I asked for rare, and it was rare. The steak's thickness made it so that the outer layer was slightly seared with a little crispy taste of delicious spices and fat that pops in your mouth, bringing its full fledged taste. The spinach salad with balsamic vinegar and cheese. The balsamic and cheese used being very good, it was good! That's usually a good side to help cut the fat taste for a second and feel again the full taste of the meat at every bite. The tiramisu was delicious, a nice fluffy whipped mascarpone and all. The coffee used in it was quite good too. All this experience ended with a delicious limoncello as a digestive.
Thanks again to all the staff fo this memorable experience!

Read moreThis is a restaurant clearly seeking to do different things from the traditional florentine eatery, and last night was a tale of three courses for us. The first, pasta with a lemon cream and cognac sauce was clearly the fan favourite and ready to go in the kitchen as it came out barely minutes after ordering. We split a portion and it was just the right amount. Flavours were a little over bold where I had expected more subtlety but other customers may be looking for proof of all the ingredients! The second course I had sea bass which was good, although the teriyaki sauce was a spoonful of sauce that could have benefited from a touch more oriental seasoning and a touch more sauce. The fish, however, was cooked to perfection and even though the spinach never came, the bed of veggies it sat on was crisp and well cooked. Alas, my daughters fried veal was an over fried thin veal chop (massive to be fair) that was covered in lightly cooked cherry tomatoes with no harmony between them. Devoid of seasoning it was as crunchy and dry as a desert, so we asked for some kind of sauce to give it back some moisture. Sauce came and dish was improved but would not recommend this dish at all. Dessert was redeeming. Nice cheesecake and chocolate cake. €122 for two with just 2 cokes and mineral water. Was it exceptional? No. Was the service pleasant enough and efficient? Yes. Would we return? Jury’s out. The room we were in was 100% tourists but we saw Italian families in the other rooms so it has a local following. (Wish I could have given 3.5 stars as it was better than okay but not quite...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite place in Florence. I've taken several colleagues of mine, mostly from US and Uk, and they are always asking me to take them back there. The place is crowded, you have to book in advance, unless you know Ivan that welcome and accommodate the guests. This mean that yes, sometimes you have to wait a little, but in most of the cases we were accommodated right when we arrived. It's a good mix of tourist and local people, Italians like to eat late and here you can easily find people eating at midnight or even later. The fact that is always full of locals say something about the quality of the restaurant. They have a great selection of wines, and they are there to help you finding the right one for your taste. The food is a mix between classic Italian and contemporary, I love the bruschetta with artichokes and provolone cheese, but they have a lot of appetizer. I was never disappointed with the steak, and my colleagues as well. However steaks in US and here are different, in US they prefer very tender meat... Well the meat we have here is different... It's more.... Textured, but with a very definite taste. It's a question of personal taste, but if you don't like the steaks here, well you're not. I siting the right country for you. Great dessert choice, I personally love the cheesecake, but all their dessert are great. The place and the atmosphere is very warm, with painted walls, but trust me, this is not a cheap restaurant run by amateurs for tourists . This is a restaurant with a genuine...
