BE AWARE OF BEING SCAMMED -
So we brought takeaway seafood salad as we thought a nice seafood salad would be delicious and inexpensive on an incredibly hot day.
IT COST 75€ for 2 serves of seafood salad, a dish of eggplant and one of artichokes and mushrooms and a large chunk of pecorino. We asked for a small piece of cheese indicating about 100 gms. We would have got 3-400gms.
The most expensive food on Italy and not even at a restaurant.
Whilst we were purchasing the owner was giving us samples to try. Which of course makes one feel compelled to Purchase. Apparently in one of the other reviews you pay for what you try.
Funny how when I’m overseas I’m not as assertive. At home I would have asked for an itemised account and had the cheese cut to the size we wanted. I think it’s because I am a visitor in another country. I don’t want to offend. Maybe.
The food was very nice. Which is an advantage.
So if you do go in there and buy some food Ask the cost
Don’t let him add oil as the food is sold in weight
Be assertive.
I walked away feeling very icky (if that’s a word) and the experience took away a lot of the joy of buying food in Italy
It’s all an experience. One I don’t want to repeat.
I hope this review helps others have a...
Read moreYesterday for the first time in Locorotonde and looking for a tasty place to eat! We walked in the center and saw a super small plark where only 3 tables were standing and 1 couple was eating deliciously! Large shelf with all kinds of goodies in terms of Italian cheese and meats! The inside is nothing at all for a display case with all the goodies and a small cupboard for wine, water and soft drinks! The owner was talking very quickly in Italian and gestured us to the table with a small bottle of rose 325 ml and an even smaller bottle of prosecco 200 ml and a bottle of water, we drink from plastic cups and ate from disposable bamboo containers and were shocked to death when we paid, namely 65, - no prices mentioned anywhere, this is how you treat tourists, not okay or neat how you should...
Read moreSometimes when you go out to eat it is as much about the experience or the people you are with as much as the food. Donato is very charming, engaging, sings, speaks fast and in the whirlwind of hunger you get swept up ordering a simple sandwich that can cost Euro $10 or more.
Read all the other reviews, Donato's salesmanship seems to be slick, quick and a tad on the smoke and mirrors side of things. I did get to sample his olives which were to die for.
I got a panino with 4 ingredients and he 'gave' me a small plastic cup of wine for Euro $10 but others have been charged all kinds of amounts for cheese boards or other things.
So just be wary, ask first before he makes anything and yes he can provide a receipt I got one from...
