Discrete, small, but extraordinary local restaurant, praised by a chef cook that knows it's traditions.
A spectacular tour through the cuisine of my own people. This restaurant has shown an excellence in the choice of it's dishes, wines and service, which shines like a star rated restaurant.
U'Curdunn is so far, the most exceptional taste I have tasted in Locorotondo and surroundings.
If you reserve in time, and you get to sit on this wonderful terrace in the small streets of the old city centre of Locorotondo, you will be gifted with wonderful local plates, like the Pugliese primed anti-pasti, Parmiggiana, Fried Anti-Pasti, and much more.
The noodles with truffle were extraordinary. The bone-less meat (Beef), served with a heated iron plancha, to cook your meat to your own preferred "cuisson", was extraordinary tender. 30€ for nearly 400 grams of top quality meat is to me personally, a bargain.
Their wine-list is a master-selcted list of local wines. We had the Susimanello Morso Rosso, enriched of taste of blueberry and vanilla, which you would hardly find in any restaurant abroad.
Let yourself lead by the service, who will tell you exactly what to choose in respect to your taste.
Absolutely try the home made "Amaro Locale di Casa" to digest your meal.
Coffee is great.
Don't forget to reserve in advance, because you will not get a table as a passer-by. 6 people tried to ask for a table in the short minutes we were waiting for our reserved table at...
Read moreThis restaurant was highly recommended by our host. I initially gave this restaurant 5 stars as the food was really good. However, the longer we stayed the more stars got reduced. I specially chose the pasta with pumpkin flowers. I saw this ingredient being featured on a program on television by another famous chef. Originally, I wanted to order the mixed grill but the pumpkin flowers was my deciding point. However, the pumpkin flowers were never added into the dish. We called the female staff to inquire. She asked me to wait. She appeared to ask the chef who gasped and seem to confirm that he did forget to add the ingredient. Disappointingly, she never or no one came back to explain or apologise. We therefore got on with it and continued eating. These two errors cost 2 stars. When we asked for the bill, we saw that they gave us a discount of €1 ( presumably for forgetting the main ingredient?). If so, that was a complete demonstration of very poor communication and a lack of respect to costumers costing another star. Upon payment, they asked if everything was ok. We obviously asked what happened to the missing pumpkin flower. They changed the subject completely and attempted to give us a light joke. Another reduced star. What a complete let down for what would have been a perfect evening. A simple and truthful apology would have...
Read moreWe ate at U Curdunn twice while staying in Locorotondo and had outstanding experiences both times. Reservations are recommended, though they were able to fit us in as walk-ins in the off season. The restaurant is in a typical Apulian cellar with gorgeous vaulted ceilings and stonework, and it was warm and cozy inside on cool November evenings. We tried a variety of dishes over both meals and every single thing we had was wonderful, this is really a place where you can't go wrong with your order. The most memorable item was an appetizer sampler type thing that was a total of 7 local dishes! The service was excellent and they made great recommendations of food and wine (Monte Dei Cocci negroamaro - seriously the best wine.) My husband was also happy to be able to try a cavallo steak, which I don't believe was on the menu but was available when he asked. Their house made limoncello was also fantastic, with a unique hint of basil. 10/10 experience all around and highly...
