I enjoyed their fresh chocolate sacchetino and coffee to take away, very good, but had an experience with a bar man there today that really shook me, it was so upsetting and degrading. It now angers me, thinking about what happened, also given the fairly regular custom I've given the cafe to date, basically I go there whenever I visit Lucca town, which is every few weeks. No sachetino today, I exchanged with the very pleasant woman there, manager I think, she smiled, we exchanged banter. About to leave, I realised I needed the loo and quickly went. What followed then I can only describe as a ridiculous and upsetting barrage from the bar man. From behind the coffee theke, first he yelled across the cafe for me to leave the naturally closing passageway door to the loo open,...as if I was to blame for it's tendancy to close (he could find a doorstop, perhaps, as a fix!?). When I came out a half minute later and was quietly leaving the cafe, he began to call after me, yelling more loudly as I passed the theke where he was stood.. Despite him having waiting customers, he then ran around the bar and followed me out into the square, in front of the terrace customers, and pursued the issue there, yelling that I must stop and answer him, why did I use the toilet? It was for customers, he shouted. I was horrified. My voice quaivered as I tried to think what to say. I won't be going back, sadly. The sacchetino were good, but not worth...

☕️🌅 CAFFETTERIA TURANDOT – LUCCA’S FRONT-ROW MASTERPIECE 🌅☕️

There are cafés… and then there is Turandot. If you find yourself in Lucca and don’t start your day here, I respectfully ask: what are you doing with your life?

Set on the grand stage of Piazza San Michele, Turandot offers what few cafés in the world can: a front-row view of one of the most jaw-dropping churches in Tuscany, where morning light glides down its Romanesque facade like a divine spotlight. It’s not breakfast—it’s a religious experience with caffeine.

Now picture this: early morning, the piazza is still stretching awake, and the Italian dogs are already out and about, confidently sniffing cobblestones and living their best Italian lives—fluffy, proud, and perfectly accessorized. You're sipping your coffee, watching these noble beasts like you're an aristocrat surveying your well-behaved subjects.

And the café itself? Sublime. The coffee is smooth, the service unhurried yet attentive, and the vibe so perfectly serene you’ll swear time slows down to let you savor it. Turandot compares favorably—even triumphantly—to the legendary Panera Bread of Daly City, which, let’s be honest, sets the gold standard for suburban comfort. But Turandot? Turandot is that—but Italian, older, better dressed, and with a view that makes you question every other breakfast you’ve ever had.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Turandot isn’t just a caffetteria. It’s how mornings...

Pessima esperienza!

Stopped back to this small spot named after a Puccini opera to enjoy an aperitivo e spuntino before heading out for dinner. This is a great spot off to the side of this large piazza to enjoy a view of the facade of the church and watch the steady flow of Lucchese go about their evening stroll. A spritz, a glass of local wine and some chips is about 10 euro with a 2 euro servizio because of the location and well worth it. Sit, sip, and enjoy.

We went there for an afternoon break and we were not disappointed. The staff was really nice and they recommended we take a thick hot chocolate the way Italians have it, and we went for the hazelnut one which was extremely good, the best one we had actually. The cappuccino and the rice were also really good and of course the view of the cathedral made it even better. I highly recommend for a nice moment!
