I’m not sure why this place is reviewed so poorly. I stayed in Matera for a week and this was my absolute favorite coffee shop! I ate here many times. Best coffee, best croissants, and prompt and friendly service.
The people complaining about the service fee - this is very standard in Italy, and frankly Europe. It’s literally like .50 cents.
To the people complaining about the waiters not liking tourists - have you considered they just simply do not speak your language very well, so have to respond with few words? Yes their responses can come across as dismissive (just as your responses would come across as dismissive if you tried to speak Italian). We ordered 3 cappucinos, and only 1 tasted like cappucino. The second tasted like milk and the third was straight out foam with milk. The waitress was kind, but the staff acted rude (ie. throws the receipt on the counter and looking mad) for absolutely no reason.
I would not recommend this place. The cakes and food was meh at max. Very disappointing place.
Toilet was dirty and we were unable to lock the door.
The only good thing was the AC, the airdryer for the hands and a nice view from the window...
