I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mater Bistrot, and I must say it was an experience to remember. From the moment I stepped foot inside the restaurant, I was greeted with warmth and elegance. The ambiance was cozy yet sophisticated, creating the perfect setting for a delightful evening.
First and foremost, I must commend Chef Alex for his culinary prowess. Each dish that graced our table was a work of art, meticulously crafted and bursting with flavors that danced on my palate. It was evident that Chef Alex is a master of his craft, as his innovative and creative approach to cooking shone through in every bite.
The menu at Mater Bistrot showcases a remarkable blend of traditional Italian cuisine with contemporary twists. Each dish was thoughtfully composed, utilizing the freshest ingredients sourced from local suppliers. The attention to detail in every aspect of the preparation was truly commendable.
Moreover, the service at Mater Bistrot was impeccable, thanks to the attentive and friendly Federica. She greeted us with a genuine smile and guided us through the menu, making insightful recommendations based on our preferences. Her knowledge and passion for the cuisine were evident as she explained the story behind each dish, enhancing our overall dining experience.
To complement our dining experience, the wine selection at Mater Bistrot was extensive and impressive. Federica skillfully guided us through the diverse offerings, helping us find the perfect pairing for each course. The sommelier's expertise was evident, and we thoroughly enjoyed the wine journey that accompanied our meal.
In summary, Mater Bistrot is a hidden gem in the heart of Milan, a true culinary delight that satisfies both the eyes and the taste buds. Chef Alex's innovative creations, combined with Federica's attentive service, elevate the dining experience to new heights. I wholeheartedly recommend Mater Bistrot to anyone seeking an unforgettable gastronomic...
Read moreThere are so many better restaurants in Milan and if you find yourself thinking of Mater Bistrot because of the Michelin Guide, the photos misrepresent the food.
We tried a number of dishes to share. The oysters were okay but lacked a flavour punch. The fishballs were very good, and the risotto very different (in terms of flavour) but good. The meatballs were dry and under-seasoned and the leeks had the tough outer leaves on, a flavourless béchamel, and we were served the hard, inedible root end on one of them - when we pointed this out to the waitress, she didn’t care.
The worst crime was the pasta. The sauce was very different and delicious, but the pasta was severely undercooked. It was not fresh pasta (or if it was, it had dried out too much) and it was hard and raw in the centre. We love al dente pasta, but this was very poor cooking and/or product quality control.
Service wasn’t great either. Whilst waitresses were happy and friendly, we had to ask for bread and not once were we asked if our food was okay. No dishes were explained to us - just dumped on the table and left. We couldn’t even face trying dessert because we were so disappointed.
Whilst the open kitchen concept is lovely, they need to invest in better extraction fans as our clothes reeked of food and frying oil when we left.
This restaurant is aspiring to be avant garde cuisine, but it’s missing the mark on so many levels (and it’s a very small and manageable place). So much potential, but not...
Read moreI was on a business trip in Milan and spontaneously had time and the desire to treat myself to a culinary meal in the evening.
I spontaneously found the small but fine "Matar Bistrot" which has a very nice urban ambience inside. What I really appreciate is the open kitchen! Here you can watch people working and nothing is kept secret! I was warmly welcomed and looked at the menu. There is a 4-5 course recommendation from the chef which appealed to me directly! The surprise menu that was then delivered to me was worth at least one Michelin star in my opinion!
The wine accompaniment is an exciting change from what is offered in other restaurants! I was clearly positively surprised!
The menu was accompanied by an abundance of small greetings from the kitchen that accompanied the culinary experience.
What I find very great here is that you can feel the spirit of Italian cuisine! Using just a few things, with a very high quality, to cook great products that stay in your soul and in your memory! Even a little twist on Asian cuisine and combining it with classics is skilfully delivered here. I really like the courage to try something new and to keep on doing the same old thing over and over again!
For every curious palate that wants to embark on a journey, I would recommend this place!
When I'm back in Milan, I'll be back for sure! Thank you for...
