This ancient church belonged to the Convent of Humiliated Friars from the 13th century and was rebuilt in 1433 after passing into the hands of the Congregation of Saint Justine of Padua. Around 1460 , Florentine bankers Azzareto and Pigello Portinari financed the construction of the apse, the sacristy, the chapter house and the choir which was extended and elevated in 1571. The longitudinal section, completed in 1476 is attributed to Gianfranco Solari. Very nice the main portal. The interior with three naves and semi-octagonal side chapels full of beautiful paintings and frescoes illustrating the life of Saint Ambrose

The church was built in the 15th century and contains some very good artworks from the time including some frescoes that sadly are not that well co served. It is worth a visit as you will see some interesting pieces and get an idea of the level of detail that churches at that time had. You will notice that the right side is far simpler, tgis is due to the fact that most of that side was destroyed when Milan was bombed.
