Pescherie Riunite - San Marco — Restaurant in Milan

This was our first meal in Milan and we were really looking forward to this restaurant because of the great reviews here. I was honestly very disappointed and confused even for days after why we had such a disappointing experience despite the reviews so I'm posting here to share my experience.

We ordered a few appetizers then the carbonara and risotto as many here recommended. However, they came out WAY TOO salty. Like it wasn't even a matter of preference, it was way too salty. I'd been to Italy before and we had the same dishes elsewhere but never had it that salty.

I am not sure if this was intentional or accidental but it was actually shocking and disappointing our first meal in Milan turned out like this. This place was not cheap either.

We did feel a little unwelcome there but I could be wrong so I will just speak to the facts - the food was overly salty. We regretted going here and would have gone somewhere else...

We walked into this restaurant with no reservations or expectations. The welcome was splendid, we were accommodated and served by Marco who is a genuinely talented host, he was knowledgeable, helpful, and above all wore a smile that made us feel most welcome. The food experience was overall positive, fresh ingredients, prepared with care tantalized our taste buds. The carbonara was heavenly, their cheese selection accompanied by one of the most flavorful mandarine marmalades is truly memorable. We also had the fried green peppers, and they were amazing. Do not skip the desserts, we tried the tiramisu and the cheese cake, and they are both great! Overall experience is worth five stars! It was after a long day of touring the Swiss and Italian Alps and riding the Bernina Express and we were ready for dinner. Our guide recommended this place so we stopped in.

I ordered the traditional Risotto Milanese (saffron) for myself and my wife had the Tonnarelli pasta prepared Carbonara style. I had a glass of white wine (Roero Arneis) and our meal was complete.

We thought our food was very yummy and the service was prompt. This place can seat a lot of people and there seemed to be a lot of groups of 2 people coming and going.
