Read moreI found Cafezal Torrefazione by searching for "Best Espresso in Milan." After reading a few of the 5-star reviews I decided to try it out, and I must say, it did not disappoint. They immediately recognized me as a tourist (from my horrible pronunciation and accent, no doubt), and so verified that I really did want a Doppio. When they asked how I came to be there, I mentioned the above search. They first pointed out that they are a Specialty Coffee store, not just a coffee bar. And thus began a long, enjoyable, conversation about coffee, what's good, what can be good, how people get think things must only be done one way. Their passion about coffee, and other things, came through immediately. I've stopped by 3 times, and every time has been superb.
Given their passion for quality coffee, I figured they were passionate about the quality of other things, and so I asked for their recommendations about gelato and Italian food in general. They recommended Il Massimo del Gelato. I believe it to be the best gelato I've had in Italy. I haven't had the chance to visit the other gelateria, Ciacco, but it too is extremely highly rated.
If you're passionate about your coffee, visit Cafezal...
Read moreA successful exception to the (Italian) rule. A real specialty coffee shop that offers everything a coffee lover's heart desires. Pretty much all brewing methods are offered (V60, Espersso, Cold Brew, etc.). The centerpiece, however, are probably the espresso-based drinks, which are pulled from high-quality Victoria Arduino machines. There is a selection of different beans (Single Origin, Blends, Washed, Natural, etc.) and you can also specify the bean for the desired drink if you want to. The beans are prepared in their own roastery, which can be examined impressively inside the shop. In this respect, there is also the possibility to shop for beans, but also for coffee equipment. Last but not least, there are excellent pastries from Cornetto to Flan and more. The prices are medium to a litte bit higher.
Good extracted shots with lovely latte art!
The barrista gives extensive explanation on beans - there is almost nothing left to be desired. Why almost? What I missed here is the free glass of (tap) water with the order. Having lived in Vienna for quite a while this is a service I expect from high quality...
