Testone — Restaurant in Milan

I didn't know we had a place specialising in torta al testo in Milan. Torta al testo is a type of flatbread typical of the Umbria region, which is usually served alongside (or stuffed with) cold cuts and cheese. And that's what the guys at Testone do, baking their own torta al testo on site and serving it with some quality meats and cheeses coming straight from Umbria. They also serve grilled meat from the barbecue and a small selection of sides, salads, pasta dishes, also taken from regional tradition. The food - the grilled meat especially - is really good, as is the service. The place itself could use some refurbishing, but honestly that wasn't much of a concern. On top of that, prices are really affordable by Milan standards, more so if you consider the restaurant is located steps away from...

Delicious, high quality, low price food, near the popular "Navigli Milanesi".

We have found a shorter menu, due to the virus crisis, but nevertheless it was memorable.

We ordered a daily dish of "Stringozzi alla Norciana" with truffle sauce. What a dish!

I have no words to add but simply: go there and try watherver daily dish you will find. It's gonna make you desire to visit the wonderful Umbrian country side.

Speaking of the "Torta al testo", what can I say to convince you to try eat this speciality?

Maybe I could say that it is cooked on a very special stone called "Testo" which gives it's typical smoked flavour.

Or should I say you can choose what to put inside it?

A busy local haunt for a quick bite with reasonable prices and very friendly staff.

We swung by Tortone after arriving in Milan. The most popular dishes here seemed to be the stuffed hot Umbrian bread (basically a torta/sandwich).

There weren’t a lot of vegan or vegetarian options on the menu, but I appreciated the clearly labeled vegan torta! We ordered the vegana, vegetariano and the Moreno (pecorino w/ honey and pears). The vegetarian options were very good, especially the Moreno. The vegan option was pretty dry for my palate (as it was just bread + 3 veggies of your choice).

Service was very quick and the staff are very friendly. My only wish would be to see maybe another vegan option, or perhaps an option with vegan cheese/meat...
