I recently had the immense pleasure of dining at Waby in Milan, located at Via Carlo De Cristoforis 2, accompanied by my brother Massimo. From the moment we stepped in, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of refined elegance and contemporary charm. The restaurant’s modern design, featuring a sleek counter with stools at the rear, exudes an international ambiance that is both inviting and sophisticated. The culinary journey at Waby is nothing short of extraordinary. Their modern Japanese cuisine masterfully blends traditional flavors with innovative techniques. Each dish is a testament to their commitment to top-quality ingredients and creative presentation. We were particularly captivated by the raw tuna noodles in dashi broth with a hint of yuzu, topped with sake-marinated salmon roe—a harmonious symphony of flavors that delighted our palates. The sushi and sashimi offerings were impeccably fresh, while the uramaki and gozya showcased the chefs’ inventive prowess. The service was exemplary, with staff demonstrating a perfect balance of attentiveness and discretion. Their professionalism and warmth enhanced our dining experience, making us feel valued and well-cared-for throughout the evening.
In conclusion, Waby stands as a beacon of culinary excellence in Milan. For those seeking an unforgettable dining experience that seamlessly fuses tradition with innovation, Waby is an unmissable destination. I wholeheartedly recommend this gem to anyone eager to indulge in exceptional Japanese cuisine within a setting of...
Read moreFood is decent but not top notch. The flavors are more sweet than savory. This restaurant is not authentic Japanese. It’s Asian fusion to be precise. The wine list is limited. Just a few OK wines by glasses. Cocktails are only Aperol Spritz and G+T. The service is extremely slow for me; the table next to me came 30 minutes later and then were served the same dishes as me starting 5th course. At the end we finished at the same time. The restaurant tries to separate guests apart to create more privacy, however, the sound insolation is bad; I can hear people talking from another table behind the wall and across the restaurant in the other room. When I asked the waiter/manager to speed up my last 3 dishes since I was waiting for a while. He brought my dish later and dropped it on my table after only saying unpleasantly “your last dish miso Cod”! Well I still had 2 more dishes - dessert. By the way if you sit in the little room by the window, the staff will take all of their to go orders to a table in that room ( in my case) to staple them one by one in front of me all night. Nothing in this experience felt like a potential one star Michelin restaurant. Suggestions - improve food, staff service, and try to provide an enjoyable experience to...
Read moreAs I was walking through Corso Como, I came up with Waby. The interior, entrance, the logo all looked nicely tuned and I have decided to dine there.
Checking out their website, I saw that they are serving at lunchtime and made a booking right away. When I walked in, it was empty and I got suspicious if I made the right choice.
Within the next 10-15 minutes, all tables started to fill in and I knew I made the right choice as the dishes started arriving at my table.
I have ordered the Crispy Rice, Negi Toro, the Black Cod Rolls wrapped in Kadaif and the Wagyu Beef Dumplings topped with Truffle Shavings…
Yeah I ordered way too many dishes thinking I wont be full but I was. Kindly requested that they pack them to take away, they have did so.
My only complaint would be the fact that this place deserves a really good cocktail menu - yet I believe being in Milano / Italy, people prefer wine over cocktails. Don’t take it as a complaint but more like a recommendation from someone who loved everything you have put out.
Thank you! Waby would be a place I would come back and recommend to every...
