Trattoria San Domenico — Restaurant in Monopoli

We chose this restaurant based on reviews and the recommendation of our B&B La Cattedrale host and we enjoyed it so much that we ate here two of our three days in Monopoli. Reservations are essential as it is very popular with the locals. Prices are very reasonable and the food and house wine are outstanding. One day for lunch I had the assorted fried fish and my husband had fish with a mushroom/wine sauce and a shared salad with house wine. For dessert we had strawberries with Chantilly cream and panna cotta. Another day for dinner we had the fried baccala for an appetizer, and I had the whole grilled fish (filleted by the waiter) and a shared mixed salad, and my husband had the fish with mushroom sauce, wine, and the Chantilly cream strawberry dessert and chocolate soufflé for dessert. Our bills were 60 euros for lunch and 74 euros for dinner and they were probably the best meals we had on our 3+ weeks in...

This is my favorite restaurant in Monopoli, every dish we have had here has been just fantastic. We had their variety appetizer which is 5 different small appetizers, and we were just blown away. I can't eat salmon in America. Its just too fishy. But their Salmon tartar was amazing, light and delicious. I don't like pretentious food, and this was just the opposite of that. Beautifully and brilliantly prepared and absolutely delicious. Get a Reservation! We were lucky that we got a table our first time because we showed up right as they opened and got their only available table. We reserved every other time and had no problems...

We had a lovely dinner but were almost beaten by the generous nature of the antipasti!

We saw a couple being served the first couple of dishes of the seafood antipasti and it looked really good so chose that for ourselves plus a pasta dish each.

Little did we realise just how generous the antipasti was. And how good it was so there was no chance we were going to leave anything.

The pasta dishes were equally good but we struggled towards the end.

The service was impeccable. And friendly.

Comfortable environment - a touch of class without taking itself too seriously.
