Pizza with a side of discrimination

I recently dined at Acunzo Pizza with my family while we were visiting Naples for a family holiday, while the food was good the service was another matter.

The service was disappointing. Our waitress displayed a short temper and an unwelcoming attitude, making us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. This negative demeanor overshadowed what could have been a fantastic evening.

The other italian diners were treat far better than we were, which just added to our bad experience.

When we asked about a specific item on the menu, the server’s response was vague and dismissive, as if it were too much trouble to explain. The staff also seemed miserable and asking for simple things (like a glass with the beer) seemed to inconvenience them. They "kindly" provided me a wet glass which looked used. Like they did me a favour.

With so many dining options available close by. Service should never be this poor. Unfortunately, I can't...

Service was abrupt and operatic.

Walked in toward the end of the lunch hour with a warm welcome. First visit. Ordered arancini, pizza, and a salad. The waitress who’d been sweet to my dog started yelling about something at another waitress in the kitchen. They both came out angry and when I asked for balsamic, one threw packets on my table, telling a third waitress that I was an idiot for have my cellphone out at lunch ( I was taking photos of the pizza to post here.)

While I ate, I heard the first impatient grumpy waitress yelling in Italian about how I’d never finish eating. No one had told me they were closing when I came in at 2:30pm. The posted hours say they’re open until 3:30pm.

Finally, I tried to eat as fast as I could and was ushered out of the dining room. I sat outside to finish my wine. The first waitress came by to chat with my dog again! Naples? There’s a lot of good pizza nearby. Unless you want it with a side of va fangulo it may not be...

Dopo una settimana di lavoro, sentiamo tutti la necessità di trovare un luogo dove poter cenare tranquillo, e godersi una piacevole serata. Tutto questo l’ho trovato in una delle pizzerie più antiche del Vomero. Acunzo!! Penso che la nascita di questa pizzeria risalga a più cinquant’anni. Recentemente è stata totalmente ristrutturata e proprio la curiosità di vederla rinnovata, ci ha spinto ad andarci. L’intervento è stato radicale!!! Ed il risultato finale, direi sorprendente!!! Si è anche allargata e per quanto la sala è divisa in più ambienti, i tavoli sono stati posizionati in modo perfetto. La tradizione vuole che il “cavallo di battaglia” di questa pizzeria era la pizza condita con la pasta. Oggi il menù è stato totalmente rivisitato e le proposte sono variate, tutte molto gustose, ovviamente la pizza con la pasta è sempre presente nel menù. Personalmente, leggendo, diverse sono state le pizze che hanno attirato la nostra attenzione, tant’è vero che abbiamo deciso di ritornarci per provare anche qualche altra pizza. Per questa prima volta, penso di aver fatto una scelta che evidenzia quanto sia forte la mia passione per la cucina napoletana. Ho scelto la pizza “ Ciaciona”, praticamente una pizza fatta con il ragù classico napoletano con le polpettine fritte sopra, la provola ed un po’ di ricotta. Eccellente!!!! Assolutamente da provare per chi ama i sapori intensi, ma soprattutto la cucina napoletana. Una cosa molto carina ed allo stesso tempo intelligente che si sono inventati, è che le pizze vengono servite tutte già tagliate a spicchi, così da poter scambiarsi i pezzi e provare più pizze. Ottima trovata!! L’altra pizza provata è stata la “ Cinque cereali”, anche questa ottima, ma decisamente diversa dalla mia, molto delicata. Inutile dire che la pasta della pizza è ottima!!! Soffice e ben lievitata. Nel complesso, devo dire che la nostra scelta è stata azzeccatissima!! Assolutamente...
