Antica librOsteria — Restaurant in Naples

Pushy tipping scam and water spilled on my child — avoid this place.

We visited Antica LibrOsteria on 6 August 2025 as a family with young children. The food was fine, but the service was one of the most uncomfortable we’ve experienced in Italy.

At the end of the meal, the waiter entered a 10% tip (€8) on the card machine without consent, saying it was “normal like in the U.S.” This is not true in Italy, especially when coperto is already charged.

When we refused, his attitude changed. While clearing the table, he spilled water on our 5-year-old child and made no apology. We also saw him aggressively upselling and pressuring another couple to tip.

Had a fantastic meal here tonight. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was amazing. English menu available as well as Italian, and all meals had allergens clearly specified, which was incredibly helpful for me as someone with severe milk protein intolerance. Food for the group was served in waves. One dish in the second wave was served cold even though it was a fried dish. We wanted to leave and pay for what was allready served to us and then the waiter threw a hissy fit. Do not go here! This same waiter tried to lure is in first with free limoncello shots. No service, no hot food...
