Not to be dramatic but I would DIE for this pizza. We (my girlfriend and I) arrived in Naples tired, hungry and confused. After dropping our bags at our accommodation we embarked on a quest for pizza. Unfamiliar with the land we stumbled across Piazza Bellini. Making our way through the crowds of locals the next thing we knew we were seated at a table with menus in our hand, orders being taken. What had happened?! We had been drawn in by the assertive yet not overbearing beckon of the unknown waiter…
Now to the main event, the food. It was our first pizza in the birthplace of pizza which could have clouded our judgement. But no, the margherita (which we both had) was an explosion of flavour. Over the next six days we ate a margherita pizza every night at different restaurants which failed to match the first. On our last night we were hesitant to return as we did not want to shatter the pizza pedestal we had put it on. We went back hoping for the best but prepared to face the harsh reality that this second visit would not live up to the exceptional standards of the first… Rest assured, I would dare to say it trumped the first. Refreshing, creamy, fragrant and light, it was everything we had hoped for and more. This pizza made our holiday, if I could give it six stars I would. A special mention to the waiter who served us both times, who had also previously worked in London! You will be hard pressed to find a...
Read moreThe food at Bellini left much to be desired, particularly for a restaurant in Italy. We ordered a mixed appetizer plate that was basically all similar tasting fried food, none of which left us craving more. The fish filet entrée was filled with small fish bones we had to keep removing as we ate. But none of that compares to how they handled the situation when they forgot to bring one of the dishes we ordered. Instead of immediately apologizing or bringing us the dish quickly, the dish took around 20 additional minutes, forcing the rest of us to wait while our food got cold to begin. It's worth noting plenty of other dishes came out during this time to other tables of guests who ordered after us. The waiter then claimed he thought we had said pizza instead of pasta (we had clearly ordered both), implying it was our own fault for saying we wanted both. They eventually apologized, but the way it was handled wasn't what we would have expected. Neither the food nor the service will be bringing us back...
Read moreApathetic is too strong a word to use to describe the staff here. We decided to have Pasta and when we told the guy politely that we didn't want the bread basket ( hello carbohydrate overload ) he started to get a bit twatty and argumentative. We had been on the go all day and it was hot and all I needed was a couple of cold beers before I ate... I polished off the first in quick time... I asked for another and in front of all the other diners... said " Already..... " in a judgemental manor... very embarrassing. Food arrived pretty pronto. Spaghetti vongole and tagliatelle ragu. . The pasta and sauce very good but more than half the clams remained closed and inedible... dangerous if one didn't know better. The waiter came to clear our table and didn't ask if all was ok. Picked a few clams off the plate tapping them abd they stayed closed.... and walked away without a word. Terrible service not quirky or eccentric just arrogant and less than average food for more than...
