The 2 weeks before my last birthday were really tough. I was very sick 🤒 and I needed to rest, but I had a lot of work and couldn't do it. So I was looking forward to a quiet birthday weekend (the actual day was Sunday) at home. 🙏 But... My wife had decided, way before I got sick, to surprise me with a weekend trip to Napoli 🇮🇹... So on Friday, I found a note telling me to prepare a bag. 😱 Normally, I would love the idea, but I really wasn't ok... yet I did my best to convince myself that I was good and everything would be fine. I think that, 2 days before, I couldn't have done that. But I managed it. 💪 Of course, since it was a surprise, I couldn't search info about restaurants in Napoli so we just improvised, thanks to Maps. The first night we went to Trattoria Marrecrè. While our son got a heart-shaped 💙 pizza, my wife and I shared a fried seafood 🦐 platter and 2 pasta dishes 🍝. Everything was correct and it's obvious that Italians make the best pasta. But... the sauces and topping of both pasta were just ok (I'm still looking for the fish in the paccheri dish, btw) and, most of all, super salty. I basically spent my night drinking after that meal. 😓 Also, I had memories of Italian restaurants being super cheap yet, on that occasion, we paid €20 each with 1 starter to share, no desserts & no drinks. We would have paid more in Barcelona, but I can't say that was cheap. The service was correct and the place was cute but decorated for tourists with cliché pictures of famous Italian actors everywhere... 🙄 Overall, that was an ok experience.

Read moreWe were encouraged by the reviews, but I would not go to this place again and I do not recommend it. The food (pasta) is nothing special and there are many problems with this place:
they charge "service" (2 EUR per person) even though it is not listed on the menu (there is no "coperto" as well), so there is a hidden fee
the staff is unprofessional and unpleasant: when I pointed out there is no "service" on the menu, they had the cheek to say that it is not on the menu, but there is service charge (later they claimed it is a "printing error"). Such practices are not legal or fair, but they act like it is perfectly fine. They claimed that every place charges this, which is not true (decent places which charge service/coperto do have it in the menu). If you want to charge service/coperto, put it on the menu.
the staff do not speak English (they used a translator which made it possible to communicate, but they still spoke to me in Italian)
The staff allow smoking on the terrace: I do not know if it is legal (I doubt, the terrace is not open air), but if you do not smoke, it is a problem (it stinks, you inhale smoke)
eating ragu, I realised there is no meat in it, but it was not described as vegetarian ragu in the menu (the dish was okay, but I would have ordered something else if I knew it is meatless ragu)
the house wine was bad
there is no price for water on the menu (also, it tastes like tap water)
I did not get a card transaction receipt even though I asked for it (they just printed...
Read moreWe went at 9:45 pm because it says they close at 11:30 pm, ordered 2 pastas, came out after 20-25 minutes, not a big deal , but before they came out they started shouting down the place. Food was a little extra salty so my partner didn’t finish it. But what make the experience bad was the lady with black hair and lenses screaming at the other guys . ONLY PIZZA ONLY PIZZA!! So we think she was complaining because of us ordering the pastas and maybe the kitchen was already close, we don’t know , anyway we felt the tension the entire meal and eat as fast as we could and left. They gave us 2 little souvenirs witch was nice , but the entire situation was very weird… they have a nice dog. Probably the best thing about the place. Thank you anyway. We can speak only about...
