We had to return for a second dinner at this charming restaurant in San Pantaleo. The restaurant is spacious and attractively furnished with some outside seating on terraces. The staff were all super-attentive and knowledgeable, going out of their way to accommodate our needs (gluten-free products were quickly produced without query and staff were able to advise about the suitability of individual dishes). That brings me to the highlight of the restaurant, the menu. We tried a number of dishes, outstanding of which were Lingotto di pecorino grigliato con guanciale sardo, in crosta di carasau con cipolla caramel lata, Costoletta di agnello cbt laccata al miele, cubo di patate fondente e cicoria saltata and Fregola all’assaggio di mare con cozze, vongole, gambero e seppia. The standout dish in the end was cozze con zucchine e zafferano (AMOREVOLI), the most delicious confection of courgette, cream and saffron coating perfectly-cooked mussels. We’d made a reservation for 9pm. When we arrived they couldn’t find our reservation. Fortunately they were able to find a table but we did have to wait in the middle Off the entrance for 15 mins. There was little in the way of an apology. The food was ok but much better available elsewhere in Costa Smeralda for more reasonable prices. Unfortunately the wait times were excessive. Towards the end we got fed up and After being there 2 hours 40 mins we asked to cancel our dessert as it was already late, we were told we couldn’t as the desert was “just coming”. Instead we asked for our bill To be prepared as we had elsewhere to be. Once we finished our dessert we went straight to the till to settle the bill, which hadn’t been prepared. We ordered black ravioli which was good, but only came as 4-5 pieces.
We also ordered the beef fillet with truffle, but were told they were using a different cut of steak and had no truffle (and apparently we would still need to pay the same price). It was genuinely terrible. Another tiny portion and literally half of the meat was pure fat. We sent it back only to wait another 20 minutes to then receive undercooked and overcooked steak on the same plate. Very bizarre.
We informed the staff, who understood and accepted that we would not pay for the steak dish. They explained that they are predominately a fish restaurant and meat is not their strength. I would suggest do not put it on the menu at 35 euros unless it can be cooked properly!
