I would give it 0 stars if I could. Here is the letter I wrote to the restaurant after our catastrophic visit. The waiter did remove the two proseccos when we pointed it out on the bill.
Madam,
Lago d'Orta and S Guilio is one of our favourite places so last week we decided to invite our 14 year old granddaughter for a short visit there in our camper. We had never actually visited the island so decided to have lunch at your restaurant. We based our decision on the information and photos on your website and made a reservation. In short, its was a catastophe. You website gives a totally erroneous image of your establishment. The 22 euro menus posted on your site are not offered in your restaurant. The lovely small dining rooms in the photos were closed. We were seated next to a tour group of at least 40 people, and another one of 10 or 12 and the noise was so loud that we could not even have a conversation. The waiter told me that the menus were still on the website because your webmaster was sick, which was an insult to my intelligence. The food was mediocre and served like in a cafeteria. The steaks were not medium rare but medium well-done, the pasta was just dumped on the plate with no garnish. The waiter was polite and offred us a glass of prosecco to compensate for the missing menus. Then he put it on our bill! Three euros for a small carafe of water is an outrage when you already pay two euros for the cover charge. We should have left before ordering and we certainly won't be back. The only positive thing I can say is that the view was lovely.
I shall be rating your restaurant on all the evalutation sites. I suggest that you have your website renewed to reflect the truth ... when your webmaster recovers from his obviously long...
Read moreWe had a wonderful lunch and experience at Ristorante San Giulio. As part of our honeymoon we were staying in Lake Orta and had been recommended the restaurant by family. Being where they are, it would be easy for them to not work hard and charge a lot! This couldn't be further from the truth!
I had the 'Land Tasting Menu' which was all excellent - especially the rabbit ragu on my pasta. My wife had some of the most flavoursome Sea Bass she has ever had. All very reasonably priced and can't recommend it highly enough!
I also, stupidly, left my wallet in the restaurant - by the time I got a boat back half an hour later - Niccolo from the restaurant had found me on Facebook using my driving licence and sent me a message to let me know it was safe! And I was going to write this fantastic review before that happened! Life affirming restaurant...
Read moreWe booked a table in the terrace and were relieved to be seated near the water. There was a big group when we arrived and it was very busy. The Tallarin with perch was delicious, but the vitello tonnato was drowning in sauce which was a little scary. The fish and chips was interesting if a tad too fishy. The Iberian pork cheek was nicely cooked and not heavy, but the agnolotti was not the best we’ve had in the Piedmont.
Service was friendly and the meal was lovely overall. The moscato d’Asti that we asked for but not mentioned on the wine list turned out to be a bit too expensive for...
