An absolute joke- Avoid at All Costs!
Our Xmas Eve lunch was a surreal ordeal—hysterical staff, dismal service, and lackluster food make it a place to steer clear of.
Despite our calm demeanor in expressing dissatisfaction with a mediocre cod dish that arrived cold and half uncooked, the staff spiraled into unprofessional hysterics, reminiscent of dealing with 5-year-olds rather than a Michelin Guide spot. The chef and waitress's shouting fits, turning the scene into a Hell's Kitchen episode, was the final straw.
Upon requesting a 10% discount for the subpar experience (a hallucinating 14 euros, imagine), the chef escalated matters by calling the police. We literally started laughing and waited, which seemed to make them even more angry. To our surprise, the police were incredibly accommodating and calm, excusing themselves in the end for the restaurant's behavior and rolling their eyes at the situation. We patiently waited, understanding Italian perfectly, as the chef falsely claimed we refused to pay - clearly if that were the case we would've not waited around for half an hour - I'm also VERY pregnant, so imagine the delight to put up with their attitude - worthy of animals.
It's sad to see their unhinged responses to reviews and complaints which really reveal a disturbing trend.
The staff's psychosis extends beyond the restaurant floor to how they handle criticism. Praise is welcomed, but dare to complain, and you're in for a dragging. Their responses to reviews and former clients mirror the unprofessionalism we experienced firsthand.
The lack of humility, professionalism, and sanity in their responses was a clear warning sign.
Overall, the place is a disgrace to Italy's cuisine and charm. Even a 5-euro plastic table at an Italian market offers better service. They paint an unfair picture of Italians. No apologies, no humility—just desperation and pettiness. Regrettably, we didn't read reviews beforehand; a simple coffee and croissant would have been a happier choice. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place...
Read moreI Sette Consoli was 1 of 3 restaurants we as a family booked prior to our visit to Orvieto (marked as a special evening). From the outside there is only a small doorway entrance which leads through the dining room onto the garden terrace which was were we eat. Lovely atmosphere to go with a wonderful meal. We chose the tasting menu which is excellent value, beautifully presented and delicious could not fault any course. Wine list is on another level it could take you 30 just to go through the white wines. Price range is very good from €20 upwards with wines also by the glass. Service is very relaxed once the first dish arrives everything is spot on with no rushing. We will return again to sample the a la carte as there are some lovely sounding dishes.
A fantastic dinner and a lovely evening. Well...
Read moreWe had a fabulous meal at Consoli! We did the tasting menu of 6 courses and opted for the wine pairings--total of 90E/pp. (60 food/30 wine). We felt a great value compared to most other tasting menus that we have experienced. Seated in their garden on a picture perfect weather evening that was romantic and inviting at the same time. Courses were spaced perfectly with the correct portions. They were generous with their wine pours, total of 4 wines with the last being a dessert wine. Loved the amuse, bread and main of lamb chops! Two types of pasta prior to the main, cheese course and refreshing dessert to top off the perfect evening. If you would like a fine dining experience in Orvieto, I don't think you can do better than I...
