trattoria alla Stella — Restaurant in Orvieto

A lovely restaurant located on the main street leading to the city centre, but still outside the most crowded areas. Judging by the number of reviews, it is a new establishment, but my companion and I were delighted with its simplicity and, of course, its flavours. I ordered a wonderful carbonara with local pasta and it was perhaps the most substantial carbonara I have ever tried. My companion also smiled, tasting the delicious meatballs in tomato sauce. The host/waiter was extremely polite, while his wife was cooking in the kitchen. The experiance was further enhanced by a truly temperamental Italian argument that had been going on somewhere in the building next door above our heads....

The staff was very friendly and the food was good, though I must admit I had higher expectations given the 4.8 rating at the time. While most diners will likely enjoy the dishes, I didn’t find the experience as memorable as at other places I’ve been.

We tried the truffle tartare, meatballs, carbonara, and truffle pasta. Of these, the carbonara stood out and is the one dish I’d genuinely recommend. I would avoid the pasta truffle.

We found this based on other reviews and wow! They weren’t wrong! Delicious food, helpful friendly staff and an overall great experience. We loved it so much we went both nights we were staying in Orvieto. The menu is ONLY in Italian, so be prepared to use a translation app. Everything we had was fantastic! A couple times what we hoped to order was sold out, but our second choices did not disappoint! I would definitely recommend and hope to return in...
