I travel and eat out a lot and I want to be fair but tonight's experience at Profumo Di Mare was a cynical exploitation. We rejected the bread because we didn't want it and they charge you for it. Oh, and there was a dead fly in the basket. At the end of the meal they forced us to pay for it. It's the Italian way we were told. Which was odd because previously in Italy they removed the charge if we said no.
Our 22e prawn dish consisted of 5 prawns that turned up cold. That's 4.40e per prawn! We ordered fries which didn't turn up. I had to chase them and they arrived half way through the meal. We ate one and they were clearly dry stale oven chips so we rejected them. The waiter said they were McCains, as if that was a something to be proud of in a seafood restaurant. They would not refund them because we had eaten one! Apparently we should have guessed they were terrible before eating one in order to qualify for a refund.
Nobody was interested in asking how the meal was or the validity of our points. When we raised our concerns we were patronised and they kept pointing to the menu as if that somehow excused their behaviour. The manager came, didn't like the criticism so walked off. They could have at least listened to our concerns with a sympathetic ear but instead they doubled down. The few euros for inedible late chips and rejected fly infested bread were more important than our satisfaction.
These people do not care about you. Do not reward their cynicism. You can find better food and...
Read moreI very rarely write a review, although I rely on reviews heavily. The waiter was a jerk from the beginning. We were there for lunch and there was hardly any other people. But he seemed to be in a rush. We wanted the raw seafood, but it was very expensive. So we just ordered some oysters. When they arrived, I noticed they looked dried on top. Obviously they had been opened much earlier than serving to us. But I didn’t want to make a fuss so I ate three of them. I could say more about how terrible the service was, and the rest of the food was mediocre. But the bottom line is that I became violently ill several hours after eating there. Vomiting and diarrhea. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. And it cost us over €200 for four people. I wish I would have heeded some of the other negative reviews. But overall, it had a good rating. So now I’m doubting now how much I rely on ratings to choose a restaurant. In any case, I hope this review is useful and helps steer you away...
Read moreWe only decided to eat here because it was the only restaurant without a line. Our waiter refused to speak to us in Italian, even though my partner is fully Italian and I can get by well in the language (we mentioned this to him several times). He kept speaking to us in English and pressed us to know where we were from. My partner said we were Canadian, to which he replied harshly “no - where is SHE from?” referring to me. As a racially ambiguous person I expect curiosity from strangers, especially abroad. But he asked in a way that made us uncomfortable and made me feel singled out. My girlfriend told him I was Colombian and he immediately replied with “Wow, Pablo Escobar? Cocaina” and walked off with a straight face. We were shocked and decided to leave. The way he kept digging proved that he planned to be racist from the second...
