I arrived in Perugia 20 years old on July 14, 1978. The plan was to learn Italian the University for foreigners and then go on to medical school. My first few months were in a pension Run by the Brizi family. Enzo and Mario. We ate lunch and dinner in this fabulous Trattoria. I remember the fireplace with meats grilling on it. Salsicce bistecche di maiale tagliate di manzo . The pasta dishes were amazing. Tagliatelle panna e piselli. Penne alla norcino. Vegetables cooked on the grill were also amazing. They also specialized on zucchini ripieni peperoni ripieni. Everything was so delicious. Mario and Enzo were always so gracious. The best was at the end you would go to the cash register and tell them what you ate. It was on the honor system. One of Enzo‘s favorite words to me once was “mangi tanto ma spendi poco.” And that was true. I have never forgotten that place. We ate there very often over the years spent in Perugia. And I hope Enzo and Mario are still around to read my memories You guys were the greatest and your food was the fabulous and you always made us feel at home. Oh I almost forgot Sundays they served cannelloni Alforno. To “Enzos” as we called it back then , until we meet again. Your friends , Ed amici, gli americani Giovanni...

The grilled meats and individually prepared pastas are still among my favorites anywhere. Friendly folks...

The door was locked but lights on inside so waited for 5 minutes and the door was opened. We ordered a primi to share, two secondi, two contorni and a litre of house red wine. The pasta with truffles and olives was delicious. I had lamb chops, tender and flavoursome. The pork skewer held sausage and meat and was also good. Wine OK for the price. With two coffees the bill came...
