First of all the staff running this hotel are always so kind & helpful - truly lovely people. We rent a house up the street and they are always very sweet. I feel badly, as neither my husband or myself were very hungry this evening, but the covered rooftop setting is so beautiful (I can never get enough of that view!), the service excellent, and every tiny detail so well executed. Lovely white tablecloths with gorgeous hand-blown water glasses, fabulous crystal wine glasses, beautiful salt & pepper grinders, excellent olive oil, breads include fennel seed taralli, grissini, and 2 kinds of rolls - all delicious! The wine list is excellent - heavy on the sometimes hard to find Marisa Cuomo's award-winning wines from tiny Furore next town over and the depth of their selection is truly impressive. Service really couldn't be better or friendlier, pretty and clean bathrooms, a glass-doored wine room that I'd love to spend some time in,... just every little thing done so well and I want to applaud them. Again we weren't all that hungry - I had the melanzane flan, which had a surprisingly chunky texture vs. flan-like, but it was tasty, then an amazing plate of probably the best carpaccio di manzo I've ever had - just melted on my tongue, with a beautiful surprise of burrata & strattiacella on top of thinly sliced zucchini. Definitely a twist on the usual rucola, but very good! My husband had the zuppa di Pesce - chock full of all kinds of seafood - he just wished there was more of the broth! In spite of us only ordering those 3 things + wine, they were so gracious and the excellent service was much appreciated! We'll be back soon... hopefully with better appetites! Oh, and prices are excellent, compared to other local upscale...
Read moreThe restaurant is beautiful, over the cliff, with glass wall all around offering an amazing view of the Amalfi coast. The food had been worked and seasoned with more attention than most restaurants in Italy but were still not perfect. The seafood salad was a soup but delicious. The seabass (catch of the day) was a bit overcooked and didn't taste much. Not enough sauce and not so savoury. The cooked veggies were served cold. The grilled lamb rib was excellent for some parts but the baby veggies were the same cold seasoned veggies served with the seabass (weird to see the same on 2 different plates). They left on the table a superb olive oil and the salt/pepper, which helped us adjust our seasoning. The bread was better than most places we've seen in Italy, tender and tasty. The service looked professional but the employees mostly lacked the sutleties and evasiveness of real professional waiters (for example dropped quickly and vaguely our main plates on the table, those plates being too large for the small table, making it impossible to center them). The desert, hazelnut in semi-cold version, was good. For the wine we took the Malibran Huo proseco which was amazing, with a flower bouquet and tiny but lasting bubbles. Overall below our expectations, considering a recent Michelin appearance and the prices, but still an...
Read moreM’ama was … Frankly a disappointing experience. Service was lackluster, food was mediocre at best. But let me start from the beginning: When we first arrived the waiter made a recommendation for wine for dinner. Great. I do love a good recommendation. When the bottle arrived it was corked. Instead of grabbing another he retreated and suggested we pick our own wine from a wine list. Surprising attitude bordering on rude, but fine. It took him nearly 20 minutes to stop by the table to get our order or inquire which wine we settled on. We seriously considered going elsewhere. When order was placed the food arrived fairly quickly. We opted for the octopus appetizer to start the meal. Octopus was well prepared but sauces it was served with left quite a bit to be desired. Once we finished, main courses arrived and food quality went way WAY downhill. Lamb was under seasoned, overcooked and served with tasteless julienned veggies. Risotto was barely edible. If it wasn’t for good wine there would not have been much to salvage with dinner. We ordered hazelnut semifreddo for dessert. It was tasty but overly sweet to the point that we couldn’t make through even half of it. All in all - two stars for trying but they hardly deserve more, especially considering other...
