La Taverna del Lupo is a hidden treasure in Ragusa, offering an authentic Sicilian dining experience in a less touristy corner of the city. While Ibla might steal the spotlight with its Michelin-starred restaurants, this gritty gem in Piazza dei Cappuccini, just a bridge away from Ragusa Superiore, is where you'll discover the heart and soul of Sicilian cuisine.
On the evening we visited, the restaurant buzzed with life, filled with families and locals eager to savor genuine Sicilian flavors. The staff, led by a charismatic and big-moustached host, extended a warm welcome that set the tone for the evening. The paper cloths on the tables hinted at the rustic charm you'd come to expect from such an establishment.
La Taverna del Lupo proudly showcases Sicilian culinary heritage with ingredients sourced from Ragusa and its surrounding countryside. The menu exemplifies honest, hearty food that celebrates the best of the region. We delighted in their Spaghetti Tenerume, a dish made from the tender shoots of the "cucuzza" squash plant, found in Sicilian markets, enhanced with flavorful sausage. The fillet steak was another highlight, showcasing the kitchen's skill in preparing excellent meat dishes.
For dessert, the deconstructed cannoli was a delightful surprise, offering a unique twist on a Sicilian classic. The restaurant also excels in its selection and recommendations of local wines, enhancing the dining experience.
La Taverna del Lupo isn't just a restaurant; it's an embodiment of the real Sicily. The lively atmosphere, filled with chatty patrons relishing their food, creates a sense of being immersed in the heart of this vibrant culture. If you're in search of an authentic and unforgettable Sicilian dining experience, this is the...
Read moreI would share details on the food , but I was denied service this evening because there “were no tables” nor outside or inside. And very rude in communicating. Has nothing to do my language barriers as good manners are universal . Saying there were no tables is a blatant lie. I counted at least empty 10 tables. It is very evident we do not look Italian and is very evident we are tourists. This has never happened to us in our extensive travelling across north and southern Italy. I have always found good welcoming people. We proceeded to another restaurant . If in my way back to my hotel I see that this restaurant is full I will remove this review . For now it stays…. update : after my dinner I walked by and there were plenty of tables inside, only one was used. It was full in the outside tables. So my original...
Read moreThis is the best restaurant we found in Italy! A true authentic experience. Service was 5/5, the restaurant was busy on a Tuesday night and so they gave us glasses of wine to drink on the square outside whilst we waited five minutes for a table. When seated, we allowed the waitress to bring us a selection of antipasti that she recommended- it was delicious and amazing value. We had garlic prawns, cheeses and olives, caponata and fresh bread. Then we both ordered pasta - ragu which was saucy and flavoursome; and a anchovies pasta with breadcrumbs. We had Creme brûlée for dessert. The whole bill was only €50 including wine. The experience was quintessentially Italian, with 5 star food without the pretentiousness of touristy or fine dining...
