Corte Cabiria Ristorante — Restaurant in Ravenna

The highlight of our day trip to Ravenna was our land and sea tasting menu, which is a high bar when there are phenomenal history and mosaics in the city. The courses included:

1. Finger foods - cod, chicken liver, and cheese macaron. They were all light and a perfect way to start the meal.
2. Some sort of warm pumpkin or squash soup. Homey.
3. Bread - did not finish because we were too full.
4. Amberjack carpaccio accompanied by sundried tomato, anchovy, puttanesca sauce (?), and some sort of dried flower. Amberjack is more neutral tasting and paired well with the toppings.
5. Red mullet sandwich with fava bean (?) puree and green veggies. This was one of my favorite dishes. The sandwich component is made of crunchy fried bread, which adds a nice texture to the dish. The fried bread is balanced out with the bright tasting sauce and green veggies.
6. Guinea fowl with sweet potato chips, chestnuts, and broccolini. The fowl is tender like duck with less fat and "gamey" flavor.
7. Pumpkin-filled pasta with mushroom and cheese sauce. This was a nice break among the meat dishes. The pieces were huge, and we were pretty full after this dish.
8. Beef cheek with pumpkin puree, bok choy, and port wine sauce. The beef was tender and could be cut with a fork. The rich taste of the beef was nicely balanced out by everything else.
9. There was a palate cleanser before the main dessert that is not pictured. I think it was passionfruit mascarpone mousse.
10. Frangipane. I'm not a huge dessert person but thought this was very good.
11. Macarons and biscuits to close out the meal.

This meal was better than many Michelin restaurants we have eaten at, and for that, it is a steal at 70...

The aspirations of Corte Cabiria are obviously ambitious. The place itself is truly nice - a tranquil court with beautiful trees to overshadow it. Moreover, one receives quick attention. Before and after the meal small delicacies are served as entree and exit to the meal, and they are truly nice.

Nonetheless we cannot find our own experience reflected in mostof the other other reviews. In fact this was an overall disappointment, because 1) the main courses, primi and secondi, were trite - entirely lacking umami. They were not bad food, of course - which would also have been absurd given the price level. But they were very far from up to the level, in fact relatively uninteresting, and 2) the atmosphere is snobbish. Great attention is given to the Italian customers, while we the others are treated correctly but without much interest. The whole attitude to non-insiders is not too...

We came here for a birthday dinner. This restaurant is a great choice for an evening where you want something fancy without everything getting too formal or elaborate.

We ordered the menu del mare, and were rewarded with a whole evening of beautiful small dishes that arrived at perfectly spaced intervals. I particularly loved my antipasto of monkfish wrapped in lardo, with artichoke and salmoriglio sauce.

The other standout was probably the little macaron that came with a pre-dinner cocktail. Green, sweet shell, but with a lovely salty blue cheese filling. It was a...
