Great food, okay prices for Italy but good for Ravenna (the city is a bit pricier than others). The mixed salad side deserves a shoutout: great value for money! 5€ for a huge bowl of carrots/lettuce/tomatoes/etc. also one of the best tiramisus I have ever had. Waiters are kind and efficient despite having maybe 60 tables to serve. We came back the following night. Unfortunately there was a middle aged man sat at a table alone who kept interrogating two other young girls at the table next to him. (Earlier, he had also been playing loud music from his phone, and when I asked him politely in Italian to turn it down he complained ‘che cattiveria! Stai calma’). The girls could be heard answering his questions, asking them when they had turned 18. He continued talking to them even as their food arrived and while they ate, offering them to add condiment to their food and other things they hadn’t asked for. We tried to help by discreetly mentioning the situation to one of the waiters. Sadly they responded that he was the restaurant’s owner’s son. Yikes! Imagine your own son poisoning your business’s vibe like that. Totally unpleasant person and desperately in need of being taken down a peg or two. Or at least give him a table away from everyone so that he doesn’t drive clients away. If it wasn’t for him the experience would have...
Read moreWe went to Ravenna to visit the famous mosaics in the Basilica Di San Vitale and looked for a place where we could try authentic Tagliatelle al Ragù.
This restaurant is located in a former cinema just five minutes from the Basilica and offers a "see-through" kitchen to watch your food being prepared. The ambience is quite modern but still welcoming.
Tables can be booked in advance via telephone, however, there was well enough capacity during lunch hours.
The waiting staff is very kind and attentive, however, keep in mind that the majority does not speak English fluently. Hidden service costs of 2,50€ p.p. are applied to the bill during payment, regardless of what and how much you order.
The food itself was great and arrived very quickly, everything is made by the restaurant itself. The Piadine flatbread is brought to the table in a paper bag and is warm, has a slightly crunchy crust but is fluffy on the inside. The Tagliatelle al Ragù is great for its price and comes with complimentary grated parmesan cheese on the side.
Softdrinks are served in 0,33l cans only and come with a seperate glass and free ice cubes if requested.
Overall, this place is perfect for trying authentic Italian cuisine at a fair price in a very welcoming establishment....
Read moreFirst - We walked into a small patio bar and we thought a few tables on the inside. They opened up double doors and we were amazed at the space!
Then we felt so fortunate as on a huge screen it was broadcasting that the new Pope had been selected. The surround sound was awesome and the picture was clear. An incredible day in Italy and hailing from Chicago we felt giddy with gratitude.
Our food was quite mediocre (may have been bad selection on our part!) I had slow cooked chicken breast w Romagna mustard sauce (which I think they forgot. It was dry w no mustard flavor. The jelly smear on the plate was sweet and didn’t match or help). He had Romagna style mixed grill w ribs Tender and good), pork belly (tough patty), sausage (excellent flavor), lamb skewer (tough pieces)
Service took a very long time. But the atmosphere for tonight was perfect. We arrived to a big empty room but by the time we finished it was full.
The menu states “Welcome to Passatelli 1962 where art, cinema, and culture have found their soul.” In the front room there are photos of many movie stars. The walls and shelves are overflowing with bottles and...
