We decided to stop for lunch at Ristorante Marchesini on our visit to Ravenna as we were really looking for pizza, and the reviews were really good. For those in our group that didn't want pizza there was a good choice of pasta, fish and meat dishes.
Very sadly shortly after we arrived we were told that they didn't serve pizza at lunchtime, only in the evening, so that was really disappointing.
But the staff were friendly, helpful and the atmosphere was good, we were sat outside next to the narrow street in a very sunny position.
The staff shuffled round the tables to accommodate our party of 7, and to give as much shade in the midday heat. So that was good
We ordered a variety of dishes, including pasta Ragu and pasta with seafood, always a good choice.
The service was good, our meals all arrived together as did our drinks.
It cost about €25 per person including drinks.
Although we were there at lunchtime I did not that the restaurant also has occasional live music evenings. The toilets, which we're on the first floor, were very clean and accessed via a lift.

My reviews aren't sponsored, they're based on mine, and often my wife's experience at an establishment whether that be a shop, restaurant, service or activity, with the aim of highlighting great service plus areas for improvement, if necessary. And boy sometimes it is necessary.

If you’re looking for a restaurant where time stands still and service is more of a distant concept than an actual practice, look no further
We waited a solid 15 minutes just to be seated. Ok fine (place was half full but ok) then things really kicked into gear when we were ignored for another 45 minutes—not even a glance from a server. I began to wonder if we were ghosts.
Waving didn’t work, making eye contact didn’t work… I was one raised voice away from using smoke signals. In the end, we had to physically go inside again to ask about our food. Fine dining meets scavenger hunt. Are we ever going to eat? Time will tell.
Other reviews said this place treats non-Italian speakers like second-class citizens. I thought maybe they were exaggerating. Nope. Spot on. It’s not just rude—it’s consistent.
No apologies. No hospitality. Not even an extra piece of bread to say “hey, sorry we forgot you exist.”
The food? It was decent. But that’s probably because we were two hours deep into hunger and starting to hallucinate. The live music was lovely, especially when it helped mask the sound of my stomach slowly digesting itself.
All in all: 0/10 for service, 10/10 for unintentional fasting experience. Would not recommend—unless you want to practice patience and humility under extreme hunger, or if you...
