We had some language difficulties, so it isn't 100% certain of what exactly happened, but we have travelled extensively for over 20 years and have pretty good intuition for when things are going right or not, and when people are dishonest. Our initial interaction began with sorting out the pricing, by weight and/or by piece. I pointed to a pizza that had a tag of around €18 per kg. The woman working entered "18" to confirm our understanding how the pricing works, then we were shown other pizza types that were €20 per kg. I selected the first pizza with the €18 tag, and asked for 100 grams. About 160g were sectioned off, and €3.20 was charged. Only upon inspection of the receipt did I see that the higher price of €20 was entered on the scale. When I pointed out this "error", I was informed that my pizza was priced properly I pointed out to the actual €18 sign right next to the pizza I selected, but the sales woman moved the price sign away to another pizza. A few minutes later, the sign was removed completely. I have worked with people that weigh things all day and come shockingly close to the requested weights every time. I find it hard to believe that this woman would be off by 60%. But the worst part is the fluctuating price, covering it up, and doing nothing to make any adjustments. My overall impression is that woman saw that we just arrived in Rome (still with the luggage) and deliberately cheated us. Price tags shifted around, stories changed, and attitude also became unfriendly (I think when we caught her caught being dishonest). In the end, I think I was cheated, sold more product than asked for, and the pizza was quite ordinary (actually, it was cold and tasteless). In no way worth even €18/kg. A nearby grocery store sells very much the same (if not EXACTLY the same) for half the price. It is a shame that because I am a visitor from another country, I had to be cheated - I felt unwelcomed to say the least. I will never go back to this pizza place, and discourage any visitor from giving them any business. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( ...
Read more5 stars for a reason! I'm Canadian, so I accept that I've never had traditional Roman pizza before visit this place. This place blew my mind, the food was exceptional, and we visited twice on our 3 nights in the Vatican City. Prices were very reasonable, and the staff was friendly, and did their best to accommodate our lack of Italian given this is not in a high-traffic tourist location.
First, it's a little hole-in-the-wall - easy to walk past if it wasn't for the line out the door, and cluster of people eating pizza on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. On entry, you see a line of traditional Roman pizza. It's whatever's come out of the oven recently, as this stuff disappears as quick as it's put out. You point at what you want and the staff cut off strips as large as you like. Each pizza is priced by weight and eventually it's diced into smaller pieces and assembled in a box for easy consumption, and ease of sharing.
The food is fresh, and well priced. The line out the door, and the reviews here speak volumes. ...
Read moreThe pizza was good…but the service is extremely rude and aggressive. We felt very uncomfortable by the end of the situation. Due to the loud hardcore electronic music playing the man taking the order had a miscommunication and sliced the wrong type of pizza. When we told him that we would like a different pizza, he made a revolting face and proceeded to cut the new pizza extremely aggressively slamming his large knife on to the cutting board. When putting the pizza on the scale to weigh it, he did so aggressively and splashed oil on us while we were waiting in front of the counter. Then he proceeded to speak to the cashier in Italian (likely cursing us). This type of service is inexcusable. Just because we are tourists and weren’t sure of which slice to get, doesn’t mean we deserve such treatment. Absolutely shocking to be abused in this...
