Just had a lunch here. Avoid this place like a plaque. If I can leave no stars, I would. Generally plates and cutlery are not the freshest. However the shock came with food we ordered. We know Syrian and Arab food very well and experienced different varieties during our travels. Dips came with no bread or pita, they brought them after we asked. Obviously they use this tactic to charge for it separately. They brought us a tap water and charged us 3 EUR afterwards. We ordered cheese and mixed manakesh. Basically they’ve folded supermarket pita breads, filled one with cheese and put zaatar on the other one, microwaved and gave it to us. At the end we expressed our disappointment and gave feedback to seems to be an owner of this place. She said the reason they charge for tap water is to cover the costs of the water filter? WTH? To the question of why they wouldn’t provide us with normal bottled water the answer was they are trying to reduce their recycling. Couldn’t answer our question about why they are doing pita breads instead of manakesh. Prices are not cheap for what you get and a quality of the food. Long story short, don’t be fooled by the good reviews, we certainly were. Sad experience in a great...
Read moreA very welcome addition to the neighborhood! While we all love Italian food, there are times when you have to leave the nest and move on to other ethnic options. Hummustown brings delicious Syrian/Mediterranean food to Roma just off Via Ostiense a couple of minutes from the Ostiense train station and Eataly.
Their hummus is creamy smooth and delicious and their falafel piadine are just the perfect size for a vegetarian lunch. I wouldn't miss their Mankoushe with zaatar spice on top - a great flatbread side dish with incredible umami.
Owned by a Syrian-Roman and helping provide support for the immigrant Syrian community, Hummustown is more than just a restaurant - it's a true community asset for Roma. I'd go even if the food was half as good.
If you're there for dinner, they also serve wine from Chimera d'Albegna, their own winery in Toscana - and we've become fans.
We're so happy to have this restaurant walking distance...
Read moreI recently took a cooking class at Hummustown and it was an amazing experience. Shaza, one of the owners, guided us through the whole experience. She gave us in detail where they get their ingredients, how they make the dishes, and the significance of them all. The people that joined us in the cooking class were nice as well and it was a fun way to meet new people in the metropolitan Rome area. Having this experience making homemade Syrian food was amazing while it was a first time experience for me as well. The teachers of the class really made the experience that much better by having amazing stories they shared with us and teaching us all about the fantastic food. I highly recommend for a different night out with friends, a date night, or even a gift for someones birthday. The experience was worthwhile and definitely something I will...
