La Taverna di S. Lorenzo — Restaurant in Rome

Stay clear from this awful pub. Rudeness beyond imagination. The owner randomly judges some consommations "not enough" to keep a table busy (despite the pub being almost empty), and basically forces you to stand up and go away (w/o drinking or eating, obviously), unless you want to add what he "deems acceptable" to your order so that it can match what he considers to be the bare minimum. I'm reading reviews of other people who went through the same, but unfortunately most of them are in Italian, so I thought to add this review in English to warn and hopefully protect tourists and non-italian speakers as well (who may be targeted even more aggressively as they're less likely to stand up for themselves in a foreign country and in a foreign language). That neighborhood is full of nice pubs/bars/wineries, as it's really close to the University, so don't lose your time and ruin a good evening to deal with...

Se potessi mettere meno di una stella lo farei: posto che merita solo di chiudere. Ieri sera dopo cena io e due mie amiche avevamo voglia di stare un altro po' insieme prima di salutarci, e malauguratamente abbiamo scelto questo posto. C'era qualche persona seduta ai tavoli fuori e nessuno dentro. Ci sediamo e ordiniamo: le mie amiche, una che doveva guidare ancora un'ora e l'altra un po' appesantita dalla cena, ordinano una bottiglia d'acqua a testa, io ordino un Mimosa e un'altra bottiglia d'acqua. Aspettiamo...continuiamo ad aspettare...passano 20 minuti...e ancora niente. Dopo tipo mezz'ora ci si avvicina un tipo che mai avrei pensato potesse far parte dello staff (chi è stato in questo posto capirà a che mi riferisco) e ci fa: "Ragazze, però tre persone e una sola consumazione....capite che ci andiamo a rimettere?", le mie amiche fanno notare che anche le bottiglie d'acqua sono una consumazione, e che comunque era mezz'ora che aspettavamo (per quanto assurda la regola ce lo potevano almeno dire subito!), niente, dopo aver riformulato 2-3 volte lo stesso concetto dello "andare a rimetterci per il nostro ordine" (ripeto, locale semivuoto, non c'era nessuna fila di gente potenzialmente più remunerativa per il nostro tavolo) abbiamo chiesto se a quel punto ce ne dovevamo andare...e così è stato. Ci hanno letteralmente lasciato come unica opzione quella di alzarci e andarcene dopo averci fatto perdere mezz'ora . E mentre stavamo uscendo la barman ha mugugnato al tipo con cui avevamo parlato "Eh no, mo quella me lo paga il Mimosa, ormai me l'ha chiesto!". Mi fa solo pena quanto sovrastimano il loro "potenziale" di guadagno tanto da cacciare clienti se la loro consumazione non gli pare sufficiente: invece che un locale potrebbero lavorare in qualche sistema piramidale, che giusto si adatta alla loro delirante percezione del fare affari. Honestly, cheap prices, yes, but the place is also cheap, for people who never print Receipt for anyone who pays, you ought to be less rude, since you ain't even paying taxes on what you offer, apart from that, rude owner who literally refused to send us to the bathroom (yes at closing time) but there were still hundreds of people sitting outside, honestly completely unbelievable, if you want to be that precise then pay taxes and print the damn receipt (we spent almost 30 €) as a group.
