After reading reviews across Reddit, and Google, and reviewing photos of the food we were very excited to come to Maccheroni but sadly, it was a disappointing experience from the moment we arrived. We were hoping for a nice romantic dinner with some amazing pasta and that was not at all what we got.
We could tell it was very busy (Saturday night 10PM) however, they confirmed the reservation we called in a few hours earlier then brought us to the back of the restaurant and pushed us into a corner.
The table was still dirty from the last party, and they did not wipe down or clean the table but rather took the placemats, flung some crumbs off the table on to the seats we were about to sit in, then pointed to sit and walked away. It was LOUD. (We were seated inside) we had to yell to speak to one another. About 5 minutes after they sat us at our dirty table, a server came over to ask if we’d like sparkling or still water, to which we asked for sparkling. It was flat, and room temperature. I’m not typically a water snob, water is water. But this just added to the negative experience.
It took 10 minutes after bringing water to ask if we were ready to order. I asked if we could get a bottle of moscatto or something sweet as there is no wine menu. The server shouted “no moscatto, what do you want to eat?!” Waited half a second and said “you want the carbonara the carbonara is always good”.
I had the carbonara, and my wife had the spaghetti with oil garlic and chili.
The carbonara had a powder like macaroni texture, and tasted like box spaghetti. It was not very good. My wife’s dish was slightly better and more fresh tasting.
The server did his best to be attentive but the entire staff was clearly over worked as there was too many people to serve and not enough staff. It was not his fault by any means, he was doing his absolute best. Everyone else in the restaurant was seemingly unhappy with their meals as well as we witnessed several plates being sent back to the kitchen.
It’s sad to say this was a disappointing dinner and it would be hard to recommend to anyone based on our experience this evening. I hope that this was simply a fluke on a very busy...
Read moreWould highly recommend avoiding this restaurant and spending your money somewhere else. Very rude management.
Ate here with a group of 11 people. 7 of us had pasta (carbonara and gricia). Unfortunately all 7 were extremely salty, to the point where the majority of us could not even eat half our dishes.
We explained this to the waiter, who insisted these dishes are salty due to the bacon and cheese within the pasta. Having cooked carbonara many times, I know that the salt from cheese and bacon will not cause food to be as salty as these 7 dishes were, and had likely been caused by the kitchen adding excessive salt.
After making a very reasonable complaint to the waiting staff, we were informed the management would remove the service charge from the meal. We felt this really wasn’t enough, as we had all ordered starters, main courses and several bottles of wine (we thought this was also an insult to the waiting staff, as it was the kitchens fault, not the waiters). One of our party spoke with the duty manger, who simply refused to believe our food was salty. He became very rude and animated when we asked if they could reduce the cost of our bill and even started asking other customers in the restaurant if their pasta was “too salty”. Very inappropriate behaviour and embarrassing for the other customers…and himself.
Having previously worked in the restaurant industry, I appreciate kitchen’s can sometimes make mistakes and we were just unfortunate to have been at the receiving end, however never once were our comments listened too, or met with an apology from the duty manager.
Left here very disappointed with...
Read moreHonestly the worst experience I’ve had in Rome so far. Obviously wanted to come here because of all these great reviews but they have completely failed me. To begin with, the server (tall, long hair) didn’t even want to serve us. As soon as we sat down he started complaining to the other servers. He either completely hated tourists or there was a racial thing going on. The whole time he was kissing his teeth and rolling his eyes at us. The food was very mediocre, but the service is what ruined the whole experience for me. The other workers seemed fine but our server was on a rampage the whole time we were there.. lol. I wanted to believe the server was just having a bad day (coming from server experience) but, it is truly out of this world to see a server being completely normal to all their other tables and completely rude to you for no reason?? The only thing he really said to us was when he gave us the bill (which we had to wait 10 minutes for) and told us that gratuity is not included. Please keep in mind that we never once complained about anything while we were there and were completely patient the whole time. While my spouse went inside to pay for the bill, the server came out and was talking bad about him and laughing to another worker and didn’t think I seen it. Think again, rude sir. At that point, I just wanted to leave because I felt so uncomfortable. My spouse, being completely generous and kind, still tipped 10% even though our server was a complete a**hole and really didn’t deserve it… ANYWAYS, here’s a picture of our very mid, very...
