I'd done a bit of pre-trip research and found the custom of aperitivos and this place named in particular, so we went there as soon as we could. It was so good that we went back on our last night in Rome for our arrivederci Roma dinner.
The restaurant itself is beautiful, with strings of lights over a mostly outdoors seating area (although there is a small set of indoor seating), protected under covers in case of bad weather, the first night we went there was actually a thunderstorm and heavy rain, which led to some rearranging fun and people moving tables closer to the centre.
The main attraction is the aperitivo buffet, you pay 12 euros for a first drink (usually their wonderful range of cocktails) and 6 euros each after that, the cocktails are extremely alcoholic (although they do mocktails, beers, soft drinks etc) and each one we had was a hit, the variety is massive.
While that may sound expensive, the payoff is you also have full and free access to their huge buffet of Italian wonderfulness that is constantly changing as the night wears on, with waiters bringing massive new trays (often perched Herculean on one hand) to the buffet table, meaning nothing ever gets stale or cold and chances are if you see something you like the look of, grab it quick because it may not be there when you return!
The food is varied, from savoury breads, pasta dishes hot and cold, deep fried vegetables and dough, crumbed salmon steaks, I could go on and on, and this is before I mention the open pizza bar where they're constantly cooking up (in front of your eyes) fresh new pizzas of various different toppings, not just your basic ones either. There's no limit except the size of your plate, and stomach.
To finish off you also get a trip to the dessert table, where a staff member builds your dessert from three different types of base (all dippable in coffee syrup for a tiramu experience), 3 different types of cream, chocolate sauce and sprinkles.
It's obviously busy but even if there's a queue outside, just give your name to the manager out front and they call you when ready (and bring around free plates of pizza for you while you wait). Even though we went on a Saturday night at prime time, we waited less than 10 minutes to be seated.
If you're after good food, good drink, beautiful surroundings and an Italian experience (I felt like we were the only tourists there) then this is unmissable and well worth the travel from the more central area (just Metro out to Bologna station on the B line and it's a straight, Roman,...
Read moreThat was probably one of the worst experience of my life. I was invited by my friend for the night drinks, yet it was the open buffet hours, however, I don’t eat after 18.00, and that’s why I asked in the entrance if I can be charged only for drink while my friends were taking the open buffet menu. I was told “yes” in the entrance, as well as by the garson who was serving to us (because I wanted to double check). However, when it was time to pay, in cassa I was told that I should have informed them beforehand, that’s why I was asked to pay the buffet price. For me paying 5.5 euro extra was not a big deal, yet problem is about the costumer service, which was totally awful in Momart. I double checked the possibility twice, not once. And there was another garson, who told me that “you should ask me, not others”. There were many garsons, and I asked the guy who were serving to our table. And the servants do not carry the badges that clearly shows that which servant is more competent than others. In the and, that garson, named Alessandro, was talking to me so unethically as if he is not talking to the customer. He literally told me with a disgusting attitude that “u came, ate, and u don’t want to pay” and while I was talking to him he turned his back and went back to do his job. Such unethical and ill-mannered people should not be hired in customer service - he ruined my whole day! Despite the fact that in the end I was charged only for drink, i am totally disappointed, because such disrespectful behaviour is unacceptable. While he was being so rude, his colleagues were laughing and hyping him, as if it was a duello or a debate. It was just a case of customer (me) who was demanding her right. And such rights are not respected by the guys like Alessandro. It was my 3rd time in this restaurant, and the last time as well. I hope the staff learn some...
Read moreLocation/Atmosphere: in the Piazza Bologna area of Rome. Nice area. Nice and big place. It can host many people so it can get a bit noisy.
Food/Drinks: Any kind of drinks (cocktails, wines, non-alcoholic, etc). You pay 11 euros to get a drink a non-limits buffet. The quality of the buffet is very good for being a happy hour situation and, compared to others, the buffet is pretty big. The drink may deceive. They are full of ice, mints, and so on so you don't really get to drink much and happen to ask for another drink which leads you to spend way more than any other happy hour. Particular facts: dessert is included and pizza is wooden made at the moment.
Staff: the cashier is very rude, and some staff too. They way the replied to us was super unfriendly. The big weakness of this place. A shame, considering the place has a huge potential. It's always full of people (most of the time you will have to wait in line) and the 11 euros all included formula works, so if they are rude they don't really care, but they definitely should.
Particular features: big place, cosy, lights all over, a nice and lively place.
On a bad note: rude and rushy cashier. Drinks deceive (in terms of quantity). Big line outside.
Suggestions to the restaurant: try to be less rude since we, the customers, are the ones who allow you to...
