My husband and I ate here twice. The first night my husband and I had our first long day in Rome and were starving! We went next door to Goose, didn't love our food, so we decided to do a night cap and eat a bit more here at Papa Rex. We both got a drink, and I ordered cacio e pepe. The service was slow, but oh man were the drinks and pasta good! The next day we were met by a rude waiter who sarcastically and demeaningly scolded my Husband for not ordering a main course, and then took forever to get my pasta and our drinks. Sadly the same pasta I had loved the night before was undercooked and ridiculously bland. Then, at the end of the meal, when I said "thank you" the waiter blatantly rolled his eyes at me and walked away. Charming right? After being slighted by the server I asked for our check and he ignored us for about 10 min. When he finally brought it to us, he practically threw it across the table. Such great manners. (not)
So, would I recommend this restaurant? Absolutely not. There are thousands of other restaurants in Rome who work hard to make sure you have an enjoyable dining experience. If you would like to deal with a grumpy server who likes to roll his eyes at you and then throw the check at you, then this is your place! Yes the location is somewhat convenient, but there are SO many other restaurants deserving of your...
Read moreWe had lunch here after the visit to the Vatican (it’s not really that close, about 15 minute walk). We ordered: The grilled octopus: decent price, well cooked The schnitzel: not very big, it was a bit rough to cut and eat. Grilled vegetables: aubergine was undercooked, the bell pepper was a bit cold and burned and the zucchini was just ok. We also ordered a water, all this came to €36, no coperto was charged.
What I need to point out, is that the service was just terrible, when taking our order, the waiter told me to give him a second to write down (the 3 things we asked for) in a very aggressive manner. The we asked for salt, he gave it to another table and when we pointed this out he stomped it in our table. We did not feel like asking him for anything more at this point and opted for other servers. Around the restaurant we could also see that things were not going well, on one table the got the order wrong 4 times, on another they brought the wrong dish, when the person pointed this out they did not receive and apology and a correction, but he was confronted and told that was what he ordered and they brought the menu so he point out what he wanted, then they fixed the mistake. The food was fine, but with the service they offer, I would not recommend...
Read moreWorst meal in Rome. Worst waiter I have ever seen in Europe. I’m talking about the one who takes care of the terrasse, bald and short. After explaining with terrible English the difference between spaghetti of seafood 12 euros and 16 euros, I understood there’s olive and fish in the 16 euros one, which I don’t eat at all, so I turned down his proposition politely. I repeated like 4 times I’ll just take the regular one, after nearly forcing me to take the more expensive one but didnt get what he wanted, this guy turned to the most nasty and rude waiter I have seen. He took my order impatiently and left only 20 seconds for us to choose the drink. What’s the worst is that he literally threw the plate when serving, also when giving us the bill. The spaghetti isn’t well cooked according to me, maybe it’s the al dente story, but shouldn’t it be a customized option? Seafood seems not fresh and the flavor is really nothing good. Go anywhere but here unless you want to be treated in a disgusting way. Plus this place is totally a touriste trap, the place inside is all for the tourist group, even in a summer day of 35 degrees, our nice waiter will let you sit outside if you aren’t the fat fish they’re...
