The gelato is actually awesome here. My partner is Italian and usually wants to go somewhere with the closed lids because apparently, for whatever reason, it is better, but the quality and value for money at Capitan Cono was excellent. We got small cones with two scoops of gelato for €3 per person - in London this would be literally double the price and elsewhere in Rome and cities in Tuscany we’ve paid far more.
More importantly, having been trekking around Italy for 10 days, this was sadly our last evening but our visit here was without doubt our favourite interaction with any person serving us throughout our entire trip. We were only spending €6 but the man behind the counter was so friendly and went out of his way to speak English (although my partner usually orders in Italian for us) and he offered me a couple of trying scoops too.
Top guy, I shall 100% visit next time I’m in Rome as when someone provides such friendly service, and the product is good, you have to choice but to do so! The lady who we paid at the till also wishes us a nice evening, it was a great...
Read moreI’ve been coming here with friends for about two months while studying abroad and it’s usually nice for grabbing a quick treat on our way home. Today, the staff members were sitting behind the counter but did not come take our order and the self-ordering kiosk wasn’t working properly. When someone finally came to help, he was rude and refused to let us order because we hadn’t paid first—something we’ve never had to do before. After getting our gelato, we sat outside on a nearly empty patio but the same employee came out and told us we were not welcomed to sit on the patio because it was “take away”. He stood over top of us demanding that we leave and we were completely shocked by this treatment. The experience was uncomfortable and felt unnecessarily hostile. The gelato is overpriced and there are plenty of other places near by that serve the...
Read moreRude, unnecessarily political and xenophobic staff. We were enjoying our time and were nothing but respectful and nice, and even gave the cashier a tip, but then after hearing us talking to ourselves, a staff member asked us, "Where are you from?", to which we answered, smiling. She then quickly removed her smile, looked displeased (to say the least), and proceeded to conduct hateful speech based on our place of origin. We said nothing (and we regret that), but I think it's quite astonishing how she thought this was the right thing to do to polite customers minding their own business. Regardless of your own personal views which do not concern me, it is not your place as a barista to make such remarks and to treat customers like that. Happened at roughly 17:45 PM on Sep 9, 2024. Cashier was a young woman with glasses. The gelato and...
