Pigneto has welcomed another gem to it’s bustling artisan community, Pico’s Pigneto.

While this location (the original is located in Trastavere) has only been open a couple of months, the heart and dedication for detail and authenticity is reflected in their extensive range of Mezcal/Tequilas, the hearty selection of Mexican Cuisine, and the decor that transports you to the back alleys of Puerto Vallarta.

The location’s lead Mixologist could probably be winning presentation awards all over the world—he has painstakingly designed each beverage and garnish on the seasonally-rotating menu with the patron in mind. I was mesmerized by the attention to detail and the creative use of ingredients like mango-agave-crema that is made fresh daily and sprinkled with Tajin to dress one of the many varying specialty beverages on the list. As an Arizona native, I was skeptical of a random Mexican joint in the middle of suburban Rome and consider myself a pretty tough critic of salsa in particular.

My server suggested the salsa rossa to go along with my carne asada burrito, and I’m not gunna lie…I almost cried it was so close to home sweet home. It had just the right amount of heat and the flavor profile of the purée had the slightest smokiness…I will definitely be trying the habanero salsa next time, my only wish is that the size of the salsa Ramekins were at LEAST double, I could not get enough of this salsa!!! 🎉👏

An added bonus was the Saturday Night Mariachi Duo that strolled from table to table, helping celebrate birthdays and love, and filling the cozy little bungalow with so much joy…

Pro Tip: Solo travelers can sit right at the bar in one of the three exclusive seats available to watch the Mixology guru as well as get a great view of the little stage.

Genuinely some of the best Mexican food I’ve had outside of Mexico.

This is the 2nd restaurant, the little brother. It’s a more laid back and has a very chilled vibe.

First good sign…they make their own tortilla chips.

Second good sign…the cocktail selection is very well curated and isn’t the standard hit list of stereotypical Mexican drinks.

Third…the food! Tacos tasted genuine. I heavily recommend going for the veggie option and getting 3 or 4 salsas. The salsa menu alone is worth the visit.

Last but not least, a lovely team of people that care about your experience.

Highly recommended! (We spent a little mute as the cocktails were so good! You could do this...

Calling out to any vegetarians who may be wondering ….. where can I get a meal that has protein, that’s fresh, abundant and tastes amazing. This is such a place. I was ravenously hungry and left totally satisfied. The flavours were authentic and fresh the staff were super friendly and the Margarita was quite delicious and not ‘watered down’ but also full of flavour. The colours inside the pace match the colours that arrive on your plate. Please do yourself a favour and try this place- I’m an Australian visitor and don’t do many reviews in Italy, but I’m proud to do this one.
