Trattoria Novegro 11 — Restaurant in Segrate

Do not buy anything here when it comes to meat and bread like a burger. So we were in a hurry and didn’t check the reviews. We arrived and the menu was half hand written, charming, but not for taken seriously. Very kind service. But having just come from an island, arriving here in the mainland, we were not inclined to try sea food. Maybe we should have. What we got was an absolute terrible excuse for a burger: old stale bread buns with lousy meat and no sauce and no greens. For 12 euros you can buy 2 MacDonalds burgers that taste better. And I don’t like that type of fast food. But it was just a necessity to eat somewhere and not to take fishy risks before another flight. Guess I should have. My wife had a pasta that I could have made, which is nowhere near the standard of anything we ate the days before. All in all fine location in an ugly dead airport neighborhood, with nice people. But we felt exploited. We were really shocked someone had the courage to serve such terrible food for that money. Maybe the staff hated my menu choice and wanted to punish me. But it was either pasta with seafood in a dodgy inland place right before a flight, or a burger. No other...

My husband and I were waiting foreverrrrr at our hotel restaurant for our appies (at least 45 min) so we decided to just pay for our drinks and leave. Walked a couple minutes to this place we saw on trip advisor and popped in. Owner sat us in between a bunch of locals and it was great. We realized pretty quickly that he didn’t speak a lot of English and we were terrible at Italian haha so he gave us the menu and then sat down and google translated the menu to us & printed it off - what great service! He recommended the 3 cheese appie (which we loved) and then we had 2 pastas. Also had 1 litre of house wine (we tried to order 1/2 a litre but wine is great so I’m not mad) and it was all SO good. My husband ordered our leftovers for takeaway but when we went to pay they accidentally threw it out. Not a big deal at all - we were full. I walked in seeing only locals and no tourists like myself. A simple homey neighbourhood restaurant that serves food as though it were home cooked and made by nannas. I just had just left my hotel, not liking the average and predictable specials on the hotel menu. I figured this is what I’ve been looking for during our trip to Italy. This was over a year ago 2022 but I decided to post since I have pictures. I ordered an octopus carpaccio with arugula and some sort of creamy tomatoey sauce with baby shrimp. Oh my both were divine!
