Polpo Mario — Restaurant in Sestri Levante

We are frequent travellers to Italy and felt the need to write this review after a very disappointing experience. While the food tasted great and the fish was very fresh, the service was the worst that we have ever received. The booking was made ahead of time and upon arrival, they were not prepared (ended up asking us to wait and reshuffle the tables for us but acted like it was a big inconvenience for them). We actually moved the chairs around ourselves to fit properly when they motioned to a table. When we sat down, we were barely greeted by the server. When asked questions about dishes, he did not provide suggestions or answer our questions (we can speak fluent Italian and so it was not a language barrier). We asked about the special (catch of the day) and he implied we shouldn’t order it because it took 45 min to make. Really wanting to try some fresh fish from the area, we added it afterwards but he then said it would actually be 30 min - and arrive after the other dishes we ordered as he submitted it already. We were fine with this but his demeanour was very rude. Further, we asked about wine and the menu was basically thrown at us. We had to make the decision ourself with no input from him. The catch of the day came out within 15 min (not sure why the 30 or 45 min comment was made). Food all tasted good but we felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome. There was no “thank you” when we were paying/leaving - he did not even say one word. The prices are higher than other restaurants on the strip and I specifically would not go back or recommend it after feeling...

We came here on recommendation which was a sad mistake. Two young lads as waiters - all their facial expressions, body signs and even how one of them talked to us really shouted "we hate the job and hate you guests". Customer focus is something they might have never heard of. I had their beef for €20. It was absolutely tasteless, very poor, a real ripoff for the price. If you pay by card, you have to go the bar counter. The manager on duty asked me how the food was, I told him that the beef was not really good. His response was: "well we are a fish restaurant" !!! Meaning, it is ok to serve inferior food other than fish??? Maybe they should not put on the menu dishes they cannot or do not want to make well. Final surprise was that they tried to charge me for items we did not have, without showing me the bill. As the amount was suspicious, I asked for it just to check, this is how I found out. Cenone di Capodanno.. come nel 99 % dei casi purtroppo delude ma questa volta speravano di no visto le precedenti visite nello stesso locale per molti del nostro gruppo. In breve, i tempi ci sembravano assurdi poi quello che alla fine ci è parso il responsabile dei camerieri nelle salette (ci sono parsi tutti alle prima armi forse collaborazioni con l'istituto alberghiero per l'occasione), ci ha detto che eravamo addirittura in anticipo sulla tabella di marcia. Il problema che incastrati in quel tavolo con poche possibilità di movimento e nessun intrattenimento è diventata una prigione. Le portate sono state di scarsa qualità ma soprattutto di quantità infima. Alla richiesta di bis del raviolo al tartufo( davvero 1 nel piatto) per una persona in particolare ci è stato prima chiesto se qualcun altro lo voleva e dopo qualche minuto il Tizio è tornato dicendo che non si poteva fare.... allucinante. Il top a fine cena quando il menù prevedeva le "delizie natalizie". Hanno avuto la faccia tosta di portare a un tavolo di 8 persone un cestino microbico con 3 (tre mandarini) 4 o 5 noci e altrettante nocciole. STOP!!!! Meno male che per caso un'amica aveva portato i datteri per portafortuna. Non parliamo del panettone, hanno portato dei pezzettini di pandoro miseri e neppure 8. Non ho parole. Chiaramente per non rovinare la serata alla compagnia non abbiamo fatto rimostranze tanto inutili. La signora bionda che girava per le varie sale e talvolta chiedeva ai tavoli accanto come andasse..da noi ha avuto probabilmente vergogna e ha evitato. Al momento del conto visto che ho dovuto andare io a portare i soldi ed erano tutti in contanti sono stato attento e al tentativo di rifilarmi esclusivamente il non fiscale col conteggio ho atteso dopo la conferma che i soldi c'erano tutti e ho chiesto esplicitamente lo scontrino fiscale visto che non vi era nessuna spontaneità a farlo. Resta l'amarezza perché per noi in passato era comunque una "certezza" invece spiace dire che soprattutto nei fondamentali non c'è stata qualità, quantità e correttezza oltre che buon senso. Ultimo esempio ..la cosa più facile, cotechino e lenticchie... terribile! Nelle lenticchie eravamo tutti convinti che le avessero allungate con della salsa ketchup dal gusto assurdo che avevano. Quando è troppo bisogna dirlo. Peccato perche il locale è in posizione centrale comodo per il carouggiou e per i 2 mari.
