Nestled in the heart of Siena’s historic center, Gallo Nero is a rare gem that masterfully blends medieval charm with modern elegance. The moment you step inside, the interior design makes an immediate impression — a stunning interplay of exposed stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and ambient lighting that creates an atmosphere both intimate and grand. Many handpicked by its owner from different parts of the world. The décor is a tasteful homage to Siena’s rich history, yet subtly contemporary, with carefully chosen art pieces and sleek furnishings that elevate the entire dining experience.
But Gallo Nero is far more than beautiful design — its true innovation lies in the kitchen. The menu is a creative reimagining of traditional Tuscan cuisine, where familiar Each dish is presented like a piece of art, plated with precision and often incorporating surprising elements like edible flowers, fermented accents, or avant-garde textures that push the boundaries of classic Italian fare without ever losing its soul.
Among the standouts, the meat-filled ravioli deserves special mention — tender, perfectly seasoned, and complemented by a subtle sauce that enhances rather than overpowers. It’s a comforting dish, elevated by refinement and balance.
Desserts continue the restaurant’s theme of innovation. The strawberry dessert is a showstopper — fresh, vibrant, and beautifully layered with textures, from a delicate sponge to a crisp tuile. Paired with their house-made ice cream, which is impossibly smooth and bursting with real fruit flavor, it ends the meal on a high note.
Service is warm and knowledgeable, with the team eager to explain the inspiration behind each dish.
Gallo Nero isn’t just a meal — it’s a multi-sensory journey that honors tradition while daring to innovate. A must-visit for those seeking something truly special in Siena. This is one of the few places where we eat well and it keeps us talking about it even months...
Read moreThese guys are up to something special. Affected by celiac disease it is not easy to feel relaxed when eating out in unknown places. From my point of view they really made me feel comfortable to eat gluten free all the way. I am in Siena for work quite regularly and I ended up eatiing at GalloNero nearly every night for a week. Mind your Thursdays as the restaurant seems to be closed.
Atmosphere: Cosy to elegant I have seen couple, business dinners and group parties. It is an upper-medium class place after all, but welcomes villans like me with no problems.
Service: They do care, they spend time with the diners even when busy. They really engage during service without making you feel uncomfortable. Fairly genuine people. Rule of thumb: If they say the wine is good , it means is really good.
Food: The food is lovely, tasty and safe for celiac people like me. No side effects for once. The taste is obviously very personal. however if you do have a taste about food , it would take no time to realise the effor put into making the dish. Portions are of a good size, but I recommend getting 3 courses to enjoy it fully. Worth skipping lunch!
Bill: I have seen tables setting a fix price on the bill of 30 Euros per person and leaving the place really happy about it. The truth is that they got food for every pocket, but remember is upper-medium class and is Quality and not quantity.
Would I go back? Definitely yes, my go to place in Siena.
Would I recommend? Absolutely if you are allergic to gluten. Otherwise go at least once, surely you will enjoy it.
Did I get anything for this review? Nothing at all.
Anything to say to Gallo Nero? Bravo to all personnel, next time I want a tour of the kitchen...
Read moreI've been to this restaurant on vacation two years in a row now, and both times I've been completely wowed by the experience. No trip to Siena will ever feel complete to me now without stopping in to visit the staff.
Rocco is always a generous and kind host, making you feel like a guest in his home. (If you are there when it's a bit slow, ask to do a wine tasting — it's a remarkable experience, benefiting from Rocco's expertise and storytelling!)
Last night, I took my friend to meet the infamous Rocco who had so impressed me with his wine tasting the year before. The restaurant was completely booked, so there was no table available, but I still wanted to say hi to Rocco — who then arranged for a table for us in a private part of the restaurant upstairs! A completely unexpected and thoughtful gesture, and the dinner was ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL.
My compliments also to Alex, our server for the evening, who was very gracious about running up and down the stairs every time he checked in on us (which was frequently!) He had excellent suggestions for my vegetarian friend, recommended a wonderful wine, and made good conversation every chance that he had.
The evening was fine dining at its best, with kind and respectful staff, delicious food, and a prix fixe menu that was worth every penny and then some. Absolutely go check out this restaurant if you are in Siena.
GRAZIE MILLE,...
